This week in: "Standing, funny how that always works!"
On standing:

When Catholic Charities is “more guarded and cautious,” it has standing in the Sixth Circuit to challenge Mich.'s conversion therapy ban.

When Friends of George’s “alter[s] the content of their productions,“ it lacks standing in the Sixth Circuit to challenge Tenn.'s anti-drag law.
The Sixth Circuit jumps out ahead of SCOTUS to block Michigan's conversion therapy ban
In doing so, the appeals court also shows how conveniently standing law is used. Also: SCOTUS rejects DOJ's stay request in a case about immigration judges' speech rights.

Amazing, at a time when the public is fixated on a cabal of evil men raping women and children, the media is like, "but is feminism bad, yo?" Feminism didn't cause the sex offender cabal - and every one of these media companies is actively promoting the things that led to it

This article shows that Ben Gurion had the Palestinians driven from their homes and then had the villages razed to the ground to prevent return.

Evidence Israel has been destroying. Good for Haaretz for this reporting.

Tulsi Gabbard will always defend Russia.

She’s the Director of National Intelligence and writes long tweets lying to defend an aggressive enemy of the United States.

What will she say when Russia moves the war inside EU borders?

So much winning.🙄

I wonder if people in Kentucky realize how many of their problems are a direct result of voting for Republicans?
Jim Beam is shutting down its distillery for 2026. They blame a "glut" on the market even though the industry produced 55 million less gallons this year than last.
Some glut.
People aren't buying MAGA whiskey.
Score another one for the Canadian boycott.

Absolutely asinine to publish this while artists are literally starving and still making art anyway

America, you have spoken loud and clear: You do not like AI. But what if AI is the way to restart the world’s idea machine?
We’re running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.
What if the best use of AI is restarting the world’s idea machine?

Why do we keep copying dystopian shit from fiction and none of the cool shit?

I don't want real life Hunger Games or 1984. I want to see the replicator and holodeck from Star Trek happen instead.

Today I received FOUR death notifications for people in ICE custody. That's 30 deaths since Trump took office. It's appalling & unacceptable.

ICE is required—by law—to ensure detainees are safe & their basic needs are met. It's clear this isn't the case. We NEED answers.

When the slightest bit of research shows he was consistently racist and a daddy issues Confederate fanboy.

People try to paint BIRTH OF A NATION as a masterpiece with some unfortunate racism. The whole movie is racist, the “masterpiece “ thing was backfilled to excuse it.

As some EU leaders lose sight of the big picture in Russia’s war of aggression, reminder of 2 of my pieces: this on consequences if Ukraine loses: www.cer.eu/publications... ; & this on what Europe must do to ensure it doesn't: www.cer.eu/publications.... Only change: funding UA is now more urgent.
Does it matter if Ukraine loses?
Ukraine is retreating and Russia is advancing, militarily and politically. Western leaders seem to underestimate both the impact of Ukraine’s defeat and the West’s ability to prevent it.

Rob Reiner was an acclaimed actor & director but he was also a vocal critic of Trump

He warned the American public that they only had a year to save their democracy

That year is almost up

Honour his legacy by fighting fascism. Fight for democracy. Fight for what’s right. Fight against tyranny.

I also feel like his body of work really disproves the persistent claim that joyful, hopeful, funny, romantic or lighthearted stories are inherently intellectually lesser and can't be Real Art
Taking a break from the sickening tragedy to focus on the beauty for a moment. Rob Reiner achieved something so rare and coveted that artists and entertainers dream of and rarely achieve: cultural permanence. How many times have you made a reference to something going to 11? Shouted "Inconceivable"?
