"It is logically impossible to simultaneously be evil, corrupt, and incompetent" is an absolutely amazing take to have in the year of 2025

Targeting a religious gathering because you believe that all Jewish people are responsible for the actions of the state of Israel is center-mass antisemitism.
So the younger shooter, in a video submitted to the court, claims the shooting was aimed at the Zionist policies of Israel as a state. This is distinct from being an attack against Jewish people as a group. Once again the pro-Zionist coalition and right wing media jumped the gun and got it wrong.

God forbid, you self-proclaimed "antifascists" actually vote against the fascist candidate.🙄
Brilliant strategy letting Trump win rather than vote for Harris.
So glad we had the longest shutdown in history-again, ICE terrorizing communities across the US & the most incompetent admin we've ever had.

Just watched the 60 Minutes segment. Basically it debunks the fundamental claim used by Trump admin that the detainees it sent there are “terrorists” and corroborates torture using clips from El Salvadorean influencers Bukele uses internally. Would be a shock to low information voters, probably

I am a tech early adopter with a very permissive view of IP rights, it's very easy for me to imagine finding this all super cool even if I never found it useful, but they've all been such tremendous fucking shitbags about the whole thing that I hate it all now lol

Additionally, I think the reason AI-credulous tech types find this so baffling is that tech has long been poisoned by a *disinterest* in this kind of rigor.

Buzzwords like disruption and innovation leave people feeling like new things are better because they're new, and truth is market-driven.
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

36. Finally this. The mark of the fossil fuel shill who never loses the arrogance to walk into a room, say "the sun doesn't shine at night and its not always windy", drop the mic and leave, confident that no one else knows what they just discovered.

10. In other words, in 2012 new production benefited domestic producers AND consumers. But today, new production only benefits producers. That's a fundamentally different policy and political environment. And note also that domestic consumption is basically flat for the last 20 yrs.

2. What he says about climate is patently false (more on that later) but to the extent he's saying "politicians shouldn't do the right thing unless it's popular", I'd note only that that is a toddlers view of leadership. If the popular kids are mean, should you be mean?

it really is like talking to antivaxxers, an activity that has historically not been rewarding for me
i also dont start poorly reasoned non-expert blogs pretending to have expert knowledge about biotech, or make it my spiritual identity to predict the downfall of biotech. some people do this, they are called anti-vaxxers and 5g conspiracists

seriously though, I understand societal risks from these things but you absolutely want an idiot to type in a question about autism, vaccines--whatever topic that's saturated with misinformation--into an llm than a standard google search. it is going to be far harder to get bad info.
I don't disagree with any of that but I think if you ask chatgpt "baby got autism from vax" you're going to get back a much better answer than if you do that on google.

This NYT story failed the reader by not digging deeper. One subject dropped out of college after one year (five years ago) and lists "Windows" as his skillset. Story should be: young conservatives who blame immigrants for their personal failures and whose lives won't be improved w/ fewer immigrants

Something like 1% of voters even know anything about the ranking member of a House committee, and absolutely none of them think it's in any way comparable to what the Trump administration is doing right now.

"slightly less fascist" jesus fucking christ, get a grip.
Real “finger on the pulse” moment for national Dems. Truly a wonder why the slightly less corrupt, slightly less fascist party doesn’t poll better.

ultimately, no one even grieved Charlie Kirk. he was just another thing for the worst people on earth to get outraged over. and when the outrage of real events wasn't enough, they invented new ones.

not even his wife saw his death as anything other than an opportunity.
my read is they were trying to whip up the usual frenzy, but then the effort got blown up by Candace Owens saying The Jews did it
It’s kind of incredible how little has been published about this guy and how little conservatives seem to care. Did people just forget these people were screeching for civil war when they thought he was a liberal?

This sort of absurd, ultra-bleak reading of the remarkable prosperity of modern societies is not only embarrassingly wrong - and I saw a historian retweet this sincerely (!!) - but also helps fuel not materialist, left-wing politics, but rather reactionary right-wing politics ('RETVRN-ism').

This is the real basis of horseshoe theory. It's not an inherent affinity between extremes of left and right, it's just that vague nihilistic anger at the status quo is easy to channel in any direction
Honestly I think it's because there's no real deep theoretical or intellectual basis to their politics, just a (tbh kinda justified) feeling that the status quo sucks.
