if only there had been a movement and momentum several years ago to downsize police budgets, clear out the white supremacists and de-militarize local law enforcement
The elephant in the room is that mayors and governors across the country have very good reason to question the loyalty and allegiances of the state and local police forces and that’s one of the impediments to doing anything about the current occupations

This is simply not technically possible. You cannot generate enough writing in-house to train an LLM. You cannot generate enough art in-house to train a GAN. People who think they have a model "trained on our own material" are using a base model of mass-scraped data, unknowingly or disingenuously.
Larian CEO says Divinity could have gen AI assets in it but only if the tools are trained on the studio's own data.

"If we use a GenAI model to create in-game assets, then it'll be trained on data we own."

Very important story from David here.
NEW

Social media is being flooded with AI-altered images claiming to "unmask" the ICE agent involved in yesterday's shooting in Minnesota.

AI cannot do this, but people are already sharing names of people they believe are the shooter.

People Are Using AI to Falsely Identify the Federal Agent Who Shot Renee Good
Online detectives are inaccurately claiming to have identified the federal agent who shot and killed a 37-year-old woman in Minnesota based on AI-manipulated images.

a lot of people traumatized themselves consuming a ton of horrific content over the years and they want to think that pain meant something or serves some greater purpose but it doesn’t and didn‘t. it just left you broken and shitty at performing your ostensible goal of liberation
reminder that the concept of "bear witness" as in "gotta watch all the bad videos yourself" is a goofy byproduct of the video age, and would be absolutely inscrutable to most people before like the 20th century

they'll kill you in the street for opposing fascism and the supposed opposition will send in the National Guard on you if you get too rowdy complaining about it
Governor Walz says he's prepared to deploy the Minnesota National Guard if protests become violent in reaction to ICE fatally shooting a woman in Minneapolis.

"We will not take the bait," adds Walz, saying he's also angry but demonstrations should remain lawful.

The confusion and conflation of ‘generative ai that is built on stolen artwork’ and ‘machine learning, character behaviour modelling and proc gen’ is intentional on the part of the grifters peddling the former. They benefit from murkiness of classification, because the latter predates their bollocks

A group of clowns (Senators) have introduced a bill to FULLY REPEAL Section 230.

No reform, no replacement, just utter destruction of all online free speech.

We can't let this happen. Share & take action

Cis people really have no idea how it feels to watch a regime hold a press conference to admit, on camera, the pogrom against trans people they've been waging for 11 months is not only real, but they're going to double down on genocide and try to wipe out all the children first.

Anyway, the tl;dr to take away from all this is a thing I have been repeating for ages, which is that extremism symbols function on a plausible-deniability basis. People who use them 100% rely on normal people going "I had no idea, so maybe he didn't either."

The sci-fi setting of Neurocracy posits exactly this scenario: brain implants are initially trained on neural data from a subset of society, so getting them to work requires us to think in ways characteristic of that subset, installing biases directly in our minds and fostering a mental monoculture
Hi hello did you know that Elon Musk's third Neuralink patient (previously nonverbal) is "getting help from Grok" to communicate

and I hope -- I REALLY HOPE -- he's not stuck in his own brain listening as a robot talks for him without his input because this, to me, would be worse than death
This patient’s Neuralink brain implant gets a boost from generative AI
A patient who types with his brain thanks to a Neuralink implant is using AI chatbots to speed things up.

It is far too easy to get lost in the minutia of the world you’re crafting and never get around to actually #writing stories. @docseuss.bsky.social has good advice on how to keep this from happening.
‘lore’ is a trap and will kill your story if you let it. so what can we do about it?
This is not an essay about lore. I mean, it is, sure. We discuss lore, what it is, how to best use it, and how it can trap you into writing…

What might not occur to you upon reading this headline is that, in other words, ICE is targeting gay men of color

Every queer press org should be picking up this story
Cruising crackdown in Penn Station bathroom puts at least 20 men in ICE custody
State and city laws prohibit local police departments from turning people over to ICE. That restriction does not apply to the federally run Amtrak Police Department.
