Charity represents the failure of public policy.

So one of the worst examples of political hypocrisy is politicians getting photo ops performing meal services for people who they have kept living in #poverty. #inequality #homelessness #auspol

I just reduced background noise, chopped the 14 minutes into 3 minute segments each compressed under 100 mb for bsky's limits, cropped and rotated a few degrees for easier viewing on here

A key question RE #longCOVID is why public health and infection control leaders are so consistently AWOL on these issues. Doubling down on personal COIs obviously plays a big role, but why do they screw up so routinely in the first place?

Dunning-Kruger plus poor science training is part of it.

This.👇 The ethics around data collection and fudging the metrics to get a desired outcome are a major problem in infection control.

Infection control leaders who define how data is collected have obvious conflicts of interest around accurate recording and reporting of infection control failures.
And if you do follow these policies you aren’t even considered a contact, so if you get sick it must be because you were infected in the community 😑

This is the best piece I’ve read so far on why the Guinea-Bissau RCT, in which a proven life-saving vaccine will be deliberately WITHHELD, is unethical

“When benefit is established, withholding an intervention is no longer neutral experimentation it becomes premeditated harm”
The planned hepatitis B birth-dose trial in Guinea-Bissau raises serious ethical concerns. Withholding a proven, life-saving vaccine from newborns to answer speculative questions is an absence of equipoise with real downstream harms for trust in vaccines.

surprise*! long covid is “not just a post-viral condition” but a kind of immunological doom spiral

doesn’t mean it can’t be treated or even stopped but it is in fact a set of active, self-reinforcing feedback loops and not just “damage” or “remaining symptoms”

*not surprised
