yes, this is why when you see actual artist time lapses (not ones where someone just hides the AI image they're tracing) there is a ton of time spent just on figuring out the blocking and fixing problems on a structural level. Slop is slop because it is noise without problem solving
Just a thing about this: a common statement in writing is that you can fix crap, but you can't fix a blank page.

I have heard AI apologists claim that this is why it's fine to generate a first draft.

Now, to be clear, fuck this.

But also: an AI draft is a fucking blank page.
I know I don’t talk about writing much. It is because I am writing so slowly.

But I want you to know that I am taking a part of this story that absolutely sucked and took me months to produce four of the worst chapters I have ever written and in the edit I figured out how to fix it.

The confusion and conflation of ‘generative ai that is built on stolen artwork’ and ‘machine learning, character behaviour modelling and proc gen’ is intentional on the part of the grifters peddling the former. They benefit from murkiness of classification, because the latter predates their bollocks

I keep hearing that folk who don't use AI will be at a competitive disadvantage compared to those who do

I wonder how long before that flips completely, and there's a big market for people who still have basic creative and research skills

This weekend, I officially wrapped up my part-time gig & I’m doing my best to not let this ruin my holidays (I can just start really freaking out on January 2nd lol). But subs — both free & paid — help me keep going with my writing so any shares/subs are greatly appreciated. Thank you! 🖤🖤🖤
Also, I know there are more important things going on, but I just wanted to mention my site since it's been a while. My new goal is to hit 375 subscribers before the end of the year & I'm 6 away from that. Eek! Free & paid subs are available: from-the-desk-of-the-horror-chick.ghost.io

Had a chat with Genndy Tartakovsky about how his idea to make Primal's third season about zombies came to be, his grassroots effort to get Black Knight greenlit, and why he wants the future of the animation industry to be driven by bold original works instead of legacy sequels, franchises, and AI.

Devastated. Outside of consistently hearing him be very pro-player and anti-shitty corporate practices I can’t speak to Vince professionally, but personally he was such a down to earth, funny, warm person. The industry already feels far less bright without him.

It's very easy:

Just don't. The idea that Copilot or ChatGPT are suddenly essential tools is just buying into the corporate ad blitz.

Games were made just fine (well, relatively) up through...what, 2023? 2024? They didn't suddenly become VITAL for budgets or design docs in the last 2-3 years.

it would actually cost SO MUCH LESS to just do this instead of throwing trillions of dollars at technofascists too, who would've thought
they didn't need AI to make Silksong, it just needed some deeply insane guys to have a blank check for living expenses until their next thing was done, I think we should try doing more of that instead

by far the funniest use case for AI is “I use it for powerpoints because I hate making them and nobody looks at them” because it kinda sounds like the real workflow savings would be to stop making powerpoints
