#polytheism
I love Middle-earth religion (what we see of it) tho. We’re in the Classical polytheism. We’re in the medieval Christianity. We’re in the combination Classical polytheism and medieval Christianity.

will polytheism ever make a comeback?

Palestinian who fetishizes Canaanite ancestry, it's a whole thing to present Islam as directly succeeding Semitic polytheism

i don't count the trinity as polytheism

maybe i just wanna have some cute lil shrines to various gods and make offerings when i feel like i need a little something extra looking out for me in a particular endeavour

Frankly, I think a lot of Western fantasy has trouble not being Christian-brained, despite the very un-Christian polytheism. There's so often some "actual God" or overgod (like Ao in the Realms). And LOTS of creationism stuff (Elf God made the elves, Orc God made the orcs) with purple prose fluff.

Tbh if Peader wants to go after our unique brand of Catholicism that incorporates idolotary of saints to the point of polytheism, I'm keen to see how that works out for him

Not really a thread tonight, but I just wanna geek out about how I am SO not religious but Auðunar IS and it's really important to him, and even with polytheism as the world's pantheon in my queer dark fantasy series it's fascinating to write a devout character like him.

Christianity is a form of Hellenistic polytheism, like Mahayana Buddhism. Rabbinic Judaism is a form of Hellenistic monotheism.

I'm going back to polytheism just to give Zeus a high five

“There are no modern tricksters because trickster only comes to life in the
complex terrain of polytheism. If the spiritual world is dominated by a single high god opposed by a single embodiment of evil, then the ancient trickster disappears.” - Lewis Hyde

I follow a lot of witchy accounts and I have to say, it’s really something to see them all saying (deity of choice) is obviously angry and has been activated because of XYZ in America, as though this kind of shit doesn’t go on all over the world.

Very America-centric polytheism there…

the Writer(s) (jury remains out on polytheism) are not always particularly subtle

If you consider any polytheism "pagan," there are ancient Roman brothels, most famously in Pompeii. They're identified by erotic paintings, though, not baby skeletons.

Oh I feel that pain. There's so many people that think polytheism(s) work like D&D and it does my head in.

To start off, I’d like to introduce @adonis-nyx.bsky.social! They make really beautiful art and stories about a universe based on hellenic polytheism, with elves and nephilim, etc. surrounding this tasty flat chested blonde, Ellie! Definitely check them out! bsky.app/profile/adon...

Given the number of gods and god-like beings that appear in various episodes, Star Trek is at least polytheistic. And given the number of times those G&GLBs are defeated by a handful of mortals, it's not a polytheism that's very impressed with their gods.

Related to this there is a way in which one could read Judaism to be open to polytheism in the sense that Jews accept that there *are* many gods that exist but that we, specifically, are pledged to this one in particular and the others are for other people.

this is why I bet on Polytheism Market
money balling Pascal's wager with a syncretic belief system that gets you past the hell-threshold with a supermajority of belief systems

Hashem is a character in human form who's basically a huckster door-to-door salesman who duped Abraham into replacing Canaanite polytheism (it's a very raunchy comedy tbc)

I have a simple but powerful #spiritual practice that I like to do this time of year. Some years, I will do it on the Winter #Solstice for the longest night, and others I will do it for New Years Eve or #NewYears Day
