Disrespectful not just of the audience, by the way. Although it definitely was.

But disrespectful of the show, of Stacy & Clinton, and of the episode's client. Like, just terrible on so many levels.

Never thought I'd miss old network tv, but here we are.
crewmansix.bsky.social
But a commercial break in the middle of a segment? Jarring as hell. And in the most egregious example, it was literally mid explanation of the person's style vision. (I'm watching Wear Whatever The F You Want because nostalgia and a soft spot for Stacy & Clinton.)

It was honestly disrespectful.
crewmansix.bsky.social
Like, the weird intervals are also bad, don't misunderstand me. Twenty minutes without interruptions, then two and a half minutes of commercials, then five minutes of show, then more commercials is just trash. Trash.

*stares in all the middle fingers*
crewmansix.bsky.social
Watching Amazon shows really makes me miss the days when shows built in the commercial breaks and networks timed them appropriately. Because why in the name of all that's unholy am I getting commercials mid conversation?

The Virginia Senate just told UVA it’s not getting state funding if it accepts the compact since UVA exists to serve Virginia, its residents, & their interests—not be a tool of the federal govt. This is definitely a dystopian turn I wasn't expecting. But the more disturbing part is that I can't say I'm surprised.

A nice circumhorizontal arc (informally known as a fire rainbow, which is a misnomer) over West Virginia captured by Christa Harbig!

It is an optical phenomenon belonging to the family of ice halos, so it is neither fire nor a rainbow.

The image shows a circumhorizon arc (or circumhorizontal arc), an optical phenomenon resembling a fiery rainbow. It forms in a clear sky with cirrus clouds made of flat, hexagonal ice crystals aligned horizontally. These crystals refract sunlight, creating a colorful arc parallel to the horizon. Vibrant colors shine brightly against the blue sky, captured near North Fork Mountain, West Virginia.

When we live through difficult times it can be easy to succumb to despair, to see nothing but darkness on the horizon. But one day, in happier times, songs will be sung of those who persevered. Strive to be sung about as one who brought hope, as one who carried light over that horizon.

I feel like people who don't do art don't really understand the ongoing joke about how we don't wanna write/draw/etc.

We do actually really want to. In fact, it is not possible to stop us.

It's just that a lot of the creative process looks a lot like doing the dishes or staring at the wall.

there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

JFC. Ron DeHaas, founder of the Christian antiporn app Covenant Eyes, has stepped down from NCOSE after his 38-year old son was charged with sexual abuse of a child.

Covenant Eyes is the app used by House Speaker Mike Johnson and his son to monitor each other's internet behavior.

It’s about time some red state governors said this!
Tweet from Home of the Brave: “Oklahoma’s Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt criticizes Trump for sending the Texas National Guard to Illinois,” followed by Stitt’s quote about states’ rights and federalism. Below is a photo of Stitt sitting in his office with an American flag behind him.

If you want proof that people are incapable of learning here is your reminder that Titanic had a sister ship called the Brittanic that was pressed into service as a hospital ship during WW1 and was so successful that they called her unsinkable and then she sank on the next voyage

An alien fleet appeared in Earth's orbit, and broadcast a message:

"Having studied you furtively, we now seek formal contact, and want to meet your greatest thinkers..."

A long list followed.

"How do we tell them?" world leaders wondered.

Topping the list were the names Calvin and Calvin's Dad.

We learned that while we are, in fact, carb junkies and lovers of bread, baking it from scratch? Nah.

A good bread machine recipe though? That's a winner.

*note to self, it is now bread machine weather*

there are breads that i enjoy making myself — any quickbread, sourdough boules and batards, flatbreads, biscuits etc. — but you’ll never catch me making a baguette or croissant at home. i live a short bike ride from three boulangeries!

a big thing i learned about myself during covid is that i just want to buy a goddamned baguette from the store or the bakery, i literally never want to make the damned thing myself

It’s a beautiful day in Chicago. There’s something really fucked up about walking your neighborhood with a whistle around your neck and signal in your hand monitoring for ICE instead of just being able to enjoy fall.

Turns out, we also have a frog hopping around Rogers Park! They’re spreading from Portland. This is the corner where people were grabbed up yesterday.
A picture of somebody in a giant green frog costume whimsically hanging off a street corner sign pole like Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain. They were actually doing the twirl but I didn’t take video. The frog has a beige belly and face and black spots all over the rest of the costume. There is, unfortunately, a corner of a postal truck obstructing the view. I was hesistant to get a closer, clearer pic. But the frog made me smile!

October Spooky Reads: It Was Her House First by @cheriepriest.com

I maintain Cherie is at her best when she is writing about hauntings, and here she interweaves past and present to deliver a ghost story with a delightful ending. It's almost cozy creepy? Is that a genre? A+ pacing & characters.

A few minutes ago in the House:

- Speaker Mike Johnson officially cancels votes next week, extending the House recess through a fourth week

- House Republicans block Democrats from passing a bill to pay the troops during the shutdown, ensuring they will miss paychecks next week
House Press Gallery: During today's pro forma session, the Clerk read a message from the Speaker designating Tuesday, October 14 through Sunday, October 19 as a district work period. Punchbowl's Briana Reilly: House gaveled in and out of its pro forma just now w/o recognizing Rep Elfreth, who was seeking to UC a mil pay bill from Rep Sykes.

Elfreth told reporters after that House Dems stand “ready and willing to take” up standalone legislation to pay troops.

We all of us
exist at the
intersections
of the people,
communities,
and dreams
we perform.

We all of us
must balance
alliances
with the joys,
responsibilities,
and hearts
that hold us.

We all of us
walk lines
chosen
by us
or for us
and try
our best
not to fall.
