Is there a bigger downgrade than OpenAI going from "we're building the machine god" to "the computer is horny now"?

Would it surprise you that the owner of Scientific American's parent company, Stefan von Holtzbrinck, invested $37 million in Inkitt, an AI firm?

What a SHOCK

Great stuff. Just fucking great. Actual adult creators are drowning under censorship but the robot is allowed to give you bullshit no-ethics, no-soul erotica. Why not.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

The use of AI to marionette a woman whose tortured existence was spent trying to carve her own life and identity out of the space men forced her into is both damningly macabre and a surprisingly perfect encapsulation of the problems with this ghoulish use of technology.

"Look, how about we let you fuck it?" pleaded Altman. "Normally they don't even let me fuck the AI but like, what if we let you fuck the AI? Would you pay monthly for it then?"

How is this Tory crap from Shabana Mahmood supposed to help integration, given even most BRITISH people don't write and speak English to an A-Level standard? It's just going to alienate migrants from flag shagging gammonflakes who can barely spell their own name! #bbcpm

Migrants will be required to pass A Level standard of English
Migrants will be required to pass tough new English language requirements under a law introduced in Parliament today.

Using ChatGPT

What's something that isn't considered embarrassing but you think it should be?
echoesanddan.bsky.social
It doesn’t work like that. They’d love you to think it does & that ‘prompt engineering’ is some mystical art, but it really doesn’t.

one thing LLMs have revealed is that the belief that there is a magical incantation that will give you what you want is not just confined to pick-up artists and freemen on the land

Seeing people nonchalantly post stuff like makes me feel like I'm going crazy honestly.
A post from an academic on blue sky that says: "I'm learning about "prompt engineering" when asking LLMs to extract data. I now add this to all instructions:

Style
Be concise, analytic, and specific (cite page/figure if provided). If essential info is missing, keep going but flag Unclear and exact data needed. Never invent data.

“Montreal’s The Besnard Lakes build their widescreen brand of space-rock from the ground up, patiently layering guitars, keyboards, bass and drums into towering edifices of sound,” writes Tim Clarke. dustedmagazine.tumblr.com/post/7973146... @nicemanwashing.bsky.social

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I love this building. I’ve always imagined that instead of scenery, it was actually a front door for a Victorian gentleman with the most extraordinary stove pipe hat.

We saw the Very Tall Door this afternoon.
Its a stage scenery workshop, hence the height.
