We banned a guy on the Steam forums for repeatedly saying there were “too many women” in our game

So he flipped his positive review to negative

Still totally worth it

The most complex part of 6502 family assembly language is not the instructions, but the addressing modes -- there are a lot of them, and I don't want to front-load the viewer with a bunch all at once. Instead, they're introduced a bit at a time.

It's a two-pass macro assembler, with support for the RAM Expansion Unit, allowing it to hold multiple files open in memory.

The control scheme is... odd. But it can be learned, and the very basics, loading, saving, and assembling to a runnable program on disk, can be learned quickly.

Woof. That's seven lessons sketched out. It's not just about the assembly language, but the environment: this is about programming for the C64U, on the C64U. That means native, on-device tools. Starting with Turbo Macro Pro, which is itself a fairly advanced program.

Would you be at all interested in a series of YouTube/PeerTube videos which purport to teach Commodore 64 Ultimate programming in assembly language, starting from assuming no knowledge of programming of any kind?

I'd no more want to get an LLM to do my writing for me than I'd want to get a machine to outsource all that boring "going to gigs" or "eating chocolate" or "having sex" and save me the bother.

there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

Sometimes I get morbidly curious about what Geoff Johns is doing in his Geiger comics, where he doesn't have access to DC characters.

But I see he's simply renaming DC characters and just doing that.
The cover to a Junkyard Joe, a robot WW2 soldier. A G.I. Robot, if you will. He's surrounded in boxes by "The Junkyard Dogs" who are just Sgt. Rock and Easy Company. Another Junkyard Joe cover. Him popping out of a retro style comic page. He's, again, a humanoid robot in a WW2 uniform. The only difference between him and G.I. Robot is he's silver instead of gold.

Every time I hear a streamer use the r-slur, I'm unable to divorce it from them saying "I support fascism because not slurring people was a line too far."

When the word bounces off my ears, I hear it not as thoughtless derogatory speech, but an ideological announcement.

I can't be the only one.

Software is political.

Art is political.

Writing is political.

That's just how it is.

Were I a Republican in congress, I would filibuster any attempt at a continuing resolution by reading the Epstein Files into the record, just to spite my own party for being so weak.

Sorry, but fuck off, Ian Levine. Just declined a long rambling post from the horrible old bastard. I thought he was banned from the group to be honest, we've certainly not allowed him to promote his crap AI slop on there before and we're not doing it, even indirectly, now.

C64 game devs: what parts of your code do you habitually assign to which memory areas? Do you make use of the RAM under the KERNAL ROM for screen memory?

Okay, it's time. I have a prized Cult of the dead cow Zippo lighter. These simply do not exist anywhere. But a CDC member is hurting and I want to encourage donations to the GoFundMe, so out it goes. Details in thread.

Bad News for Apple and IBM.

Shots fired, literally in the case of this ad, by Commodore as it pitches the Commodore 128 as the business computer of choice.
A rather clever ad with a photo of a C128 computer with a bowler hat (representing IBM) and an apple bitten into with an arrow through it resting on top and the tagline. It also lists of the pros against the competitors such as an 80 column display and up to 512k of memory.

An iPhone typically draws a couple of watts - maybe 6 watts if doing something particularly intensive.

A Commodore 64 draws 9 watts in standby, around 20 watts with the screen on.

As we can see, a Commodore 64 is several times more powerful than an iPhone.

Right now Bluesky is a joke. It’s impossible to take seriously because the people behind it are unserious. What makes BlackSky any different?
studio8502.ca
Is BlackSky going to refuse compliance with fascist laws? Are they going to protect my right to ridicule the pain of bad people? Or is it just another social media circle jerk that exists to flatter the egos of the people in charge?
