This is from the most recent edition of the STATUS newsletter; an all-too-common gripe with the NYT is that as an institution, they exhibit little-to-no esprit de corps with the rest of the journalism industry.
"Propaganda from the Pentagon: Over the past 24 hours, the Pentagon has seized on a story published by the NYT to whitewash its draconian new press rules—regulations so extreme they prohibit reporters from soliciting tips on social media, bar all photography inside the building, and even forbid sketches of what journalists observe unless permission by the press office is granted. Multiple Pentagon spokespeople have publicly cited the NYT article, which carried the misleading headline "Pentagon Relaxes Press Access Rules," to suggest the restrictions aren't as bas as other reporters are making them out to be. Inside the Pentagon press corps, the reaction has been furious. Reporters who cover the building were already frustrated by the NYT story, but especially now that it is being weaponized in an official propaganda campaign. The NYT story "fucked us," one Pentagon reporter candidly told me.

I was so excited to see that actor show up in HIGHEST 2 LOWEST at first (until it became clear his character was underwritten as hell)

He made remarks about TX guardsmen playing tourist in Illinois, and otherwise said,

“It is up to the defendants to make certain they abide by the judge’s order."

Not sure how that will go.

It's also unclear to me how IL and Chicago plan to enforce the order, other than expecting the Trump admin to abide by it in good faith.

Other reporters and I asked IL Attorney General Kwame Raoul about enforcement after the court hearing, and he mostly sidestepped giving a substantive answer.

The Trump admin is also expected to appeal. Govt. counsel even asked Perry for an administrative stay on the order pending appeal, which the judge didn't grant.

This will probably soon end up before the 7th Circuit appellate court - which has a fair share of conservative judges.

For one, this is a *temporary restraining order.* it expires in two weeks, hence why Perry ordered a hearing on its possible extension on Oct. 22. It's not a permanent injunction on national guard federalization / deployment in Illinois.

I know a lot of people are still absorbing judge Perry's order against national guard deployment in Illinois. A couple things to keep in mind:

Looks like we didn't have to wait for tomorrow for the written order: bsky.app/profile/jons...

Trump deserves no credit for this ceasefire - even in a backhanded way. He could have stopped the war this entire past year. If you have to thank someone - and there is little to be thankful for given the ruins of Gaza - please thank the global protest movement.

Watch the videos of our people celebrating and fuel up on joy for the next phase of the fight for a Free Palestine. We will never stop until our people have the dignity of full lives on our land: self determination, freedom of movement, the right to return. In our lifetime.

This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.

I am not fearful — I am fearless.

We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights..

Englishman here, married to a wonderful American lady, living in the US. Initially she was horrified by my use of the word "cunt" as it is only used as a pejorative against women here. This morning she asked, "Who turned the air conditioning on? Some cunt?" Never been prouder.

I did not submit this. @prayingmantis.bsky.social makes good tea (now)!

I get up earlier than the wife so I can make tea in bed. She loves it, feels spoilt and all that crap. The real reason I do it, is her tea making skills are poor. Small sacrifice to get up early, but the tea taste far better.

I keep thinking about this detail from today’s hearing: Federal judge April Perry said she began getting threats “about 10 minutes” after she was assigned the case seeking to block Trump’s national guard deployment. This is the world we live in now.
jonseidel.bsky.social
Perry: "I agree with you about the seriousness of threats, generally, across the United States right now. I don't think there's a single public servant, really, who is not being subject to threats.

"Mine started about 10 minutes after I got this case."

This proclamation is batshit insane and i just want everyone to try to fathom, for one second, what is like being a Native person on their homeland with invaders and occupiers continuously spouting lies and threatening violence against those who defy it.

Also, this means we’re winning 💅🏽
The WHITE HOUSE
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Today our Nation honors the legendary Christopher Columbus — the original American hero, a giant of Western civilization, and one of the most gallant and visionary men to ever walk the face of the earth. This Columbus Day, we honor his life with reverence and gratitude, and we pledge to reclaim his extraordinary legacy of faith, courage, perseverance, and virtue from the left-wing arsonists who have sought to destroy his name and dishonor his memory. Just over 2 months later, on October 12, 1492, Columbus made landfall in the modern-day Bahamas. Upon his arrival, he planted a majestic cross in a mighty act of devotion, dedicating the land to God and setting in motion America's proud birthright of faith. Though he initially believed he had arrived in Asia, his discovery opened the vast frontier and untold splendors of the New World to Europe. He later ventured onward to Cuba and other islands in the Caribbean - exploring their coasts and engaging with their people.
Guided by steadfast prayer and unwavering fortitude and resolve, Columbus's journey carried thousands of years of wisdom, philosophy, reason, and culture across the Atlantic into the Americas — paving the way for the ultimate triumph of Western civilization less than three centuries later on July 4, 1776. The WHITE HOUSE
Outrageously, in recent years, Christopher Columbus has been a prime target of a vicious and merciless campaign to erase our history, slander our heroes, and attack our heritage. Before our very eyes, left-wing radicals toppled his statues, vandalized his monuments, tarnished his character, and sought to exile him from our public spaces. Under my leadership, those days are finally over — and our Nation will now abide by a simple truth: Christopher Columbus was a true American hero, and every citizen is eternally indebted to his relentless determination. The WHITE HOUSE
This Columbus Day, more than 500 years since Columbus arrived in the New World, we follow his example, we echo his resolve, and we offer our gratitude for his life of valor and grit. Above all, we commit to restoring a Nation that once again dares to tame the unknown, honors our rich cultural inheritance, and offers rightful praise to our Creator above.
In commemoration of Christopher Columbus's historic voyage, the Congress, by joint resolution of April 30, 1934, and modified in 1968 (36 U.S.C. 107), as amended, has requested the President proclaim the second Monday of October of each year as
"Columbus Day."

I donated some copies of Let This Radicalize You for distribution at an ICE watch training for folks who want to join school patrols in a nearby neighborhood. Not everyone got a copy, because 120 people showed up for that training tonight. I am endlessly proud of Chicago.
A display of copies of Let This Radicalize You on a table in front of a sign that reads: "Let This Radicalize You offers stories, strategy and heart for the kind of collective care and resistance we're building together today. It helps us move from reacting to organizing. Showing how ordinary people protect each other, build power, and keep hope alive. Take a copy. Read it. Stay connected."
