For reference, that is the Memorial AIDS Quilt. I will link to it under this, Chris's reply to Gavin Newsom praising fucking Reagan. Which I will also put below.

A deeply dangerous — and blatantly retaliatory action against Colorado — by the Trump administration.

NCAR is one of the most renowned scientific facilities in the WORLD — where scientists perform cutting-edge research everyday.

We will fight this reckless directive with every legal tool we have.
Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

Donald Trump has instructed the entire FBI to prioritize finding ways to bring charges against anti-fascists and other activists. Any FBI agent who wants to advance his career now has an incentive to set up naïve kids for an entrapment case.

Driving down my alley, the ice is so thick and so deeply tracked that it's like driving one of those cars in the Tomorrow Speedway at Disney World: you have the illusion of steering but you're only going where the track is.
Chicago is a winter city & I think residents pride themselves in navigating the brutal winters. As much as the cold and winter is part of our identity, the city itself doesn’t manage winter & snow well. Right now, our sidewalks are intermittently icy w/ many alleys looking like ice rinks.

How much tax do we have to pay to get a police force that’s more likely to enforce than break the law? Oh, that’s not how any of this works? Ok, well maybe let’s divert some funds to other programs then.
New: a suit filed in federal court late Weds alleges high-ranking cops in CPD—& other city officials—ignored a detective's complaints about fellow officer Marco Torres.

He's accused of "physically, mentally and sexually" abusing her, intimidating witnesses, and trying to put out a hit on her:

Attorneys say their client has faced years of violent abuse and threats at the hands of another detective while top brass and city officials have refused to investigate or discipline him.

it's not crazy, they're just pretty sure it's going to happen to Black or Latino people rather than them

it's 2025, surely everyone can see this pretty plainly by now?
It’s crazy how the “Don’t tread on me!” and “Live free or die” crowd is fine with masked gangs of anonymous armed federal agents hassling, detaining, and assaulting people on the streets “papers please”-style.

This feels like the most basic freedom of not living in a fascist police state.
Here's interview with US citizen scanned by ICE's facial recognition tech. Walking home from gym, authorities come over. He says he's a citizen. Put him in car. Only release after scanning his face

For anyone still interested, Milwaukee (sb) was clear but there are frequent flat ice streaks where snow melted, drained across the bike lane, then re-froze. Logan Square sucks, just take the lane. Nothing seemed to have been salted but I didn't slip at all (once I got out of my alley). #bikechi

I just got vaxxed yesterday, it’s not too late! Flu and new Novavax at Costco. If you’re traveling and seeing family at Christmas, get vaxxed ASAP before you get on a plane!
1/ Fall vax rates are slipping, flu is taking off, and when it comes to vaccination schedules (or anything, really) the U.S. isn't Denmark. Plus, a gut-punch report on how ICE policies are shaping health behaviors and hurting kids’ health. Here’s your quick #publichealth briefing for the week!

It sounds like they ultimately arrested someone, which sucks, but if it takes 5+ hours and a team of 30 for each arrest, that’s a lot fewer court cases to fight, a lot fewer gofundmes to split our support, and a lot more intact families.
I keep saying we all need to be sand in their gears

10:00am ICE chased a guy to an apartment building. Crowd gathered. Rapid response arrived. By 3:30pm 30 agents there, & used chem munitions & gassed the n’hood*

5 hours
Eventually 30 agents
1 guy

Neighbors & rapid response were sand in the gears
Happening right now. Community members in Elgin, IL are in a standoff with Feds who are trying to abduct their neighbor.

They’re roving surveillance machines. The reason all the Waymo’s in LA got set on fire during riots is because people knew that they’d turn any footage over to the feds. So, we don’t want them here for that reason alone. The feds are bad enough as it is, they don’t need yet another set of cameras.
