On Friday and Saturday, the Twin Cities were the center of global news. A day of solidarity. A horrific murder of a good man by masked federal agents. A city that rallied with peaceful fury. And then, as of Monday, a scapegoat sent packing. A neat story all wrapped up. Reporters all fly home.

we need to reform the kiddie concentration camps is a take
Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez died in government custody.

She had sickle cell and congenital heart disease but couldn’t access timely and adequate medical care.

We need to reform immigration detention.

completely irrelevant but I’m started every time I see Le Dark Macron
“The French government announced that it will stop using American video conferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom, and replace them with Visio, a French platform.”
Zoom Is the First Casualty in France's War on American Big Tech
Homebrewed video conferencing may not be a moonshot, but you gotta start somewhere.

i am struggling with how some of these ideas can be called “reforms” when they seem to be simply making illegal acts even more illegal. look im no lawyer but im prettyyyyyyyy suuurrreeeee they are already required to get warrants. isn’t it bad to treat the fourth amendment like a bargaining chip?
This is a very reasonable position and I think it’s worth reading the transcript before getting angry

Institutional neutrality is a straight jacket the campus presidents and boards put themselves in in order to absolve them of any moral obligations to the to the world and community which they reside. Trump’s Compact attempted to codify this practice that many, many campuses adopted on their own.

body cameras have not stopped cops from killing people, why would they stop ICE? what would body cameras have done to prevent the last two killings? renee good’s murderer filmed the shooting himself and proudly released that shit.

i think it’s funny there’s a piece floating around out there about how the kids these days don’t like Harry Potter because they no longer care for liberalism and like….

-racial stereotypes abound
-everyone hates hermoine for trying to free slaves
-main char wants to be a cop when he grows up

my first reaction upon hearing that Homan was going there was to imagine that Trump hid another $50k cava bag somewhere in the twin cities and Homan is now tasked with finding it
CNN calling Tom Homan "well respected" and "not as hardline as Bovino" is an interesting choice. The dude took a $50,000 bribe in a fucking Cava bag and says all the same fascist shit as Bovino and Noem.

Journalists, please remember that repeating obviously false statements is not balance or fairness. It is actively participating in deception.

ICE killing #AlexPretti should remind you of police killing #PhilandoCastille. Both men had concealed weapon permits, did not draw their guns, & were killed in Minn. These homicides are the price of unaccountable policing. These deaths are variations on the same fatal theme.

Something I want more people to bear in mind about Linda Tirado's injuries in 2020 is how few colleagues in journalism felt moved to aggressively support her in public after she was shot by police.

People need to learn from that now as journalists go into danger again, because that hurt her a lot.

If you’re outraged over ICE and you want to do one thing tonight where you don’t even have to leave your couch, subscribe to a local, independently owned newspaper.

Having reporters who can be relied on right now to ask questions and actually report the truth is essential.

It’s crucial that networks with Sunday morning shows not let Republicans lie about what happened today. Interrupt them, cut their mics, cut away. It’s reckless and inaccurate to let them spin a murder. The video is clear. I don’t expect this to happen, but the journalistic imperative is clear.
