I remember back in the 90s/2000s reading about people in various corners of the world (Europe and Middle-East typically) who, due to the influence of watching a ton of American cop shows, angrily demanded warrants or being read their miranda rights from their bemused local police.

Once again my firm conviction is that ordinary people are meeting the moment in a way that the upper echelons of the media, judiciary, and capital (albeit I probably didn't expect any better from them) are not. People, in fact, are typically not so evil as fascists want and need us to be.
I added captions to this video of people heckling Greg Bovino leaving a Target in Minneapolis, and there's so many people yelling things at him it's like a comedy skit

Remember when the NYPD officer pepper sprayed the peaceful protesters during Occupy and it was a big deal?

ICE daily
One basic pattern here is that DHS officials are engaging in violence simply because they are irritated at citizens protesting them. There is no plausible threat of violence here. He just wants to inflict pain, and believes there will be no penalty for doing so.
Big clash this afternoon between DHS agents and protesters in a residential street in Minneapolis, following a DHS agent hitting another vehicle. Tear gas was deployed in people’s yards and agents pepper prayed people.

100%. If you want an alternative slogan you can go with "Abolish ICE before they kill again."
the only reason "abolish ICE" is seen as radical is that no one will say it but the far left. if every normie Democrat started saying it tomorrow it would move the overton window so far you'd have to squint to find it. my kingdom for leaders who understand they can shape public opinion.
Democrats officially going all in on the mealy mouthed “ICE needs training” narrative.

No. ABOLISH ICE.

They assume we must all be getting paid to rise up cos:

A) they can't imagine a scenario where they would stand up for a stranger without financial incentive

B) they received financial incentives or free passes to cause trouble

C) there is insane funding behind them, and they draw small crowds

This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
one of the most effective weapons we have against fascism is mockery, especially when its really funny
It occurs to me all the yelling at ICE in MPLS isn't merely funny. Getting made fun of like this is awful for morale. ICE is losing field officers faster than it can wave them through training, and a big part of it is how little of this these little weasels can take.

I don't think Biden is the same as Trump but given that Trump and his accomplice were not thrown in jail after a failed coup attempt, it's pretty obvious the Biden administration collectively didn't think it was worth fighting for this very difference, since they didn't fight.
On BlueSky, I see people who want Americans to believe that because Biden, Obama, and others did not end racism in America, they are no different than Trump, who actively encourages racist rhetoric and racist policies.

Don't fall for their lies. There is a difference, and it is worth fighting for.

Toujours très difficile pour moi de lire des témoignages de personnes non blanches, ici des musulman•es en particulier, car ça me ramène à l'école primaire et au collège où je subissais du racisme. C'était dans les années 90, il y a donc vingt ans. En Normandie.
