I hate that it has come to this, but my biomom has been partly paralyzed due to gallbladder issues sustained throughout much of this year. She’s recovered several vital functions (speaking, eating solid food, breathing on her own), but her limbs remain incapacitated. Please help if you can.

The dread of the cubicle was always in large part sublimated anxiety about a certain kind of white collar existence. I’ve worked in every office type, and I think people in an open office has always seemed noticeably more stressed.
Early Dilbert comics were funny but also harmful to society because they turned us against the noble cubicle. Cubicles were civilization’s apex - a cloth box for everyone, millennia of progress ending in a private paradise cube - but Dilbert made them uncool and we’ve paid the price ever since

Proportional representation systems can't be gerrymandered. Don't believe me? Give it a try!

I made a gerrymandering simulator with an imaginary state under either single-member districts or multi-member proportional districts.

How much can YOU gerrymander?

- say the Republicans are bad for your wallet
- vociferously fight smears
- profit?

you know this guy is a FOR REAL photographer because he's telling the story of his brutal, unconditional arrest by federal goons and can't help but slip in a gear review
Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Oh one more. At a nearby elementary school that has a lot of vulnerable families, parents have implemented a buddy system, pairing up with another family to bring over groceries, take their kids to the playground, and do their laundry. It is beyond heartening to see the ways people have stepped up.

Part of the issue is that most of the parties interfering for Trump are not functional democracies and if they are on paper democracies the ruling party does not believe in democracy. Hard to get pro democracy parties to be comfortable interfering in others elections

Good example of this is Denmark, simultaneously a victim of genuine fascistic-imperial aggression at the hands of a rogue America and doing their damndest to deport as many immigrants as possible whose blood quantum the state has ruled makes them genetically incompatible with social democracy
I see a lot of well meaning people (not OP) who like to talk about countries (usually the ones they're from or have an affinity with) as being steadfast bastions in the new cold war and I cannot stress enough that you have failed the assignment if you think this
i think, however, this is a crystal clear example that the next cold war is actually democracy vs autocracy and the battle lines run right through every single advanced democracy. there aren't really any safe harbors.

The Virginia Voting Rights Restoration Amendment seems to require completion of parole, probation and fines before automatic restoration of voting rights. That would place Virginia closer to its neighbors to its south (NC/SC/GA) than those to its north (PA/NY/MD). Could’ve had better text.

The thing that I hate most in the world is some mother fucker in a Winter Park McMansion who thinks that scamming people is cool and smart but paying taxes is for suckers.

These dicks think they’re winning but their souls smell like ass and they’ve built nothing but wealth.

i think about this every time i look at the latest Overdrive or Hoopla or Kanopy invoice. unless prices or demand stabilize, our budget and thus our library will soon be describable as “lessee of digital content with a legacy dead-tree side concern.” 📚
No surprise to librarians, but perhaps surprising to users, demands/prices for ebooks /audiobooks are killing public library budgets. David Szalay's book, Flesh,” costs DCPL:
$28.99 hardcopy
$59.99 ebook
$69.99 audiobook
DCPL owns hardcopy; rents & must repurchase ebook & audio book every 2 yrs.
Libraries can't afford e-books. D.C. lawmakers have a plan.
The demand and price for e-books is up — and it’s busting the D.C. Public Library budget.

Reading about how segregationist state governments, through “State Sovereignty Commissions”, carried out surveillance of civil rights activists, socialists, LGBT people and the general left.

State governments have long used their own surveillance for political purposes, so why not sousveillance?
