I'm terrible at doing these "Media Threads" so I'm going to try again this time on BlueSky, hopefully I can actually keep this up for a whole year.

〜actually〜 I believe leftists have the capacity to be even *more* anti-AI

not only that, but many less politically-inclined will too when it starts dawning on people that you can’t buy a computer the way you were able to just a year ago because all the components have now been earmarked for not-you

I don't think you can ever judge whether things are getting better or worse on a global scale, it's just too much. But no matter where you are, people around you are giving everything they have to make their communities better at all hours of every day and you can be one of them
I’m firmly in the belief that things will get better simply because they have to, their is no other choice

Hi all! So my only real source of income presently is the delivery apps (i.e. my car), and my car now needs repairs before it’s safe to drive again. I dunno how much it’ll be but I know I don’t have it, so I’d really appreciate any help you can offer! <3

LRT: the number of people I encounter, particularly in certain Twitch chats (that happens to be where I encounter them, I'm sure they exist elsewhere too) who still believe that the entirety of games journalism is some vast payola scheme where everything is bought and paid for is mindblowing to me.

Citation for the worldview question poll above in a national poll is in the link below. Image is from our poll in March of Biden voters that skipped 2024, 72-20 overall agree and 77-13 in 2026 battleground states.

More data these people are ignoring. This was the Oct 8th 2024 Siena. 59% say the system needs big changes. 11% think it needs to be torn down entirely. You think you are going to address those voters' concerns by being pro life and pro gun?

A Dem that runs as pro trans gets a SIXTY ONE POINT BUMP WITH DEM VOTERS and a NINE POINT BUMP WITH INDIES over ones that go silent.

The failure to get this is a prior beliefs/incentives problem but it's also a research problem. The current establishment's understanding of voters is utterly cooked.
Relevant to that is another finding in the poll. A theoretical officeholder that speaks up about these issues is preferred by:

ICE raids D+72 I+40
Trans D+61 I+9
Gaza genocide D+33 I-24

Guessing that Gaza one was a question wording effect, but if you're running a a Dem, those are your voters.

I have no idea how society is going to respond to either no new electronics or all electronics 4-5x in cost overnight for the next few years. like the new Steam Deck will be $2000. consumer technology is over.

the PC was what “democratizing” technology actually looks like. remember this every time someone uses the word “democratize” to describe using dumbass chatbots running from hyperscale corporate datacenters that drink lakes
It’s important to reflect how *unusual* the PC was as a product. Computing up to that point was about renting time on someone else’s hardware. Maybe your office had a mini stashed in a closet. I can’t think of any other technology that escaped containment and went straight to end users like the PC.
it seems obvious in retrospect that the SaaS model was a prequel to HaaS. what they didn’t have at the time was a giant tech money ouroboros rolling up the entire supply chain like an evil katamari

it is remarkable how much this problem is the mirror image of every real filmmaker (has ideas, but no money)
AI filmmaking is completely unserious.

You've got people with $30k begging the internet for ideas by next week because they have nothing of their own to say, it's just slop for the sake of slop. Embarrassing state of affairs.
