Candid answer - as someone who handled constituent affairs calls for years - while they’re not checking the phone right now, the urgency of the moment is important.

Show them you care enough to make the weekend call, and be counted that way. Staffers will clock and report this upstream.
Is there actually a benefit to leaving a VM now vs getting a staffer on Monday? Can do both but just curious

Trump's chief contribution to American politics is revealing that you don't need a respectable veneer for evil, corrupt behavior. You can rob the bank, say you did it because you like money and you'll do it again, and challenge anyone to stop you

When people argue that renewable energy sources are too expensive, remember that we don’t invade countries to seize wind farms and there are no solar cartels. Fossil fuels have enormous geopolitical, public health, and climate externalities.

So what is the plan, if any, for the “day after” Maduro’s downfall? To leave the Maduro regime in place with a new and more compliant leader?

That is hardly what Venezuelans, who voted for Edmundo González in the rigged 2024 presidential election, want. wapo.st/495KWuH
Opinion | Trump claims the U.S. will ‘run’ Venezuela. What’s the plan?
The raid to nab Maduro was brilliantly executed. The aftermath could get extremely messy.

It's kind of funny that just yesterday CBS Evening News made a big show of how it would unapologetically promote the American state... and is today going to cover the government's war crimes while pretending to be some neutral news source.

I keep seeing people posting like “another capitalist war of imperialism“, and like, no, nobody wants to do this.
one of the dumbest parts of this is the idea that oil producers actually want their holdings in venezeula back, which they do not. it’s a war for oil no one really wants.

Can it be any more goddamn obvious that this was done as part of a significant deal with major power players in Venezuelan government?

Dems should try to impeach... Rubio and Hegseth. Make them sacrifices. Republicans won't touch the Precious but they probably don't care about the minions.

IMO "war for oil" frame risks glossing over A) deeper history & politics around the US in LatAm, & B) the fact that the US doesn't actually control its oil companies—we're one of the few major oil producers on the planet where the state doesn't exercise much decision-making power over that industry

Folks like to say "twitter is not the real world" but the government is being run by people addicted to it, and who take actions based on how many twitter likes it will generate, and approving comments it will get from their favorite Twitter accounts

Their messaging is so fucking incoherent. Maduro was an illegitimate leader who lost in 2024, which is why we're replacing him with his VP instead of the person who won in 2024. We did this to stop fentanyl, which is why he's indicted for cocaine.

We're also occupying Venezuela via Zoom call.

Bukele should basically fear for his life if a Democrat wins the next election but let's be real no foreign leader is actually afraid of Democrats lol, its what makes the whole "Dems will start WW3" so insane as a rhetorical device yet we have an electorate so braindead they fall for it.
I don't have much hope of it actually happening even if/when Dems win back power, but is nice to see one Dem politician bring it up
