Whoa. Hello new followers!

I post about my cats, rescue kittens, knit, quilt, and sometimes write books.

I require tea in vast quantities to maintain equilibrium and always choose violence. I use the word “fuck” in all of its many forms judiciously and with extreme prejudice. Rage is my default.

Every year I look forward to sharing my Advent Calendar online. My mother made this by hand in 1976 or 1977. There no Velcro or glue - everything is sewn onto the panels in her tiny little stitches. Day One is a very content looking felt cow with a tiny French knot for her eye. #AdventCalendar

My newest creation is this fabric art, wintertide tree that I designed and hand-sewed. The ornament is a mild, almost ineffective charm that will help you receive a hot drink that's almost the perfect temperature. The charm will also give you slightly creepy dreams that feature cranberry goblins.

🎄 GOOD MORNING, and welcome back to the annual Italian Christmas Donkey Challenge 🫏

The rules are simple 🌟

You must find a person who has never heard “Dominick the Donkey” and play it for them:

I have come to the idea that we have to collectively, brutally, ritualistically kill Target just to show capital that we truly aren’t fucking around.

Well, it’s been virtually the only game I played for the last 5 years, but this means fuck you and bye, Fortnite.
SO... I'm pretty much done with Fortnite. There were statements made by Tim Sweeney saying that AI usage doesn't need to be disclosed, and then AI usage was found all over this current season- from art to sprays to in-game songs. Between that, and the upcoming shitty wizard collab... Yeah, I'm done.

Magenta and Eddie both came running for their evening Churu when I called last night, and even allowed me to pet and scratch them, so I may have been forgiven for my nine day unjust imprisonment. With any luck we will maintain our friendship enough that I can dose them regularly with flea meds.
The fact that they are willing to return to the porch and eat from the food station where they were trapped less than 30 minutes after being released is very encouraging. In time we might be friends again, and they may come for pets and eat Churu from the tube instead of the porch. I’ll take it. 2/2

Well, they don’t hate me too much, and have reunited with their mom. (She’s the one in the back without the ear tip, which I hope to change soon.)

Everyone including big sister Columbia (likely from Mom Cat’s spring litter) has come for breakfast, so the whole family’s back together. /1

I kept my promise. Magenta and Eddie were released after their breakfast this morning. I will miss them, but they were so happy to be back outside. They ran immediately to the neighbor’s shed where they grew up. It’s a sunny day (a change from the wind and rain), so they can enjoy the warmth. /1
So, despite some encouraging signs and high hopes, I will make good on my promise to them and return them to my back porch. That’s what the “R” in “TNR” stands for. One more night indoors. I promised.

I’ll continue to care for them as best I can as community cats. Eddie is a sucker for Churu. /2

Eddie and Magenta went to the vet today for their spay and neuter, vaccinations, and ear tipping. It was made beyond clear this week that they are not only an extremely bonded pair, they are just not going to acclimate to indoor life. Especially Magenta. /1
Magenta, hearing this, ran to the (locked) studio door. She’s not dumb. She sees us come and go through there. That is the way to Outside. The joint clamor of “we want out” chirps was demoralizing.

I made them a promise. If they still want Outside after they see the vet, I will make it so. /3

I’ve been watching The Great British Sewing Bee on Roku. They have ads which I’m used to: meds, laundry detergent, fast food, the occasional movie trailer.

I really thought at first what I was seeing was a trailer for an action film.

It was NOT an ad.

It was RECRUITMENT PROPAGANDA FOR ICE. /1

There is NO FUCKING EXCUSE for this to be happening.

I had a baby die in my arms of pertussis some fifty years ago. It was a HORRIBLE death. But my fellow nurses said to me, "It's almost stamped out now, they're all getting the shots, we won't be seeing this again."

HOW THE FUCK ARE WE HERE. 😡
A third infant has died in Kentucky, KYDPH adds:

“These are Kentucky’s first pertussis deaths since 2018. None of the infants nor their mothers received the recommended pertussis vaccinations during pregnancy or early infancy.”

Anyway, here's a long thread I did last year on out-of-print work, copyright, death of the author, etc, because I do have experience in this area.
"At least Skyla is done with discourse, surely she can't have more to say--"

NOPE, NOT DONE YET, HOLD ON AND LET ME GET MY COFFEE.

I'm taking this sentiment at face value and trust it's meant in earnest: "Copyright should end upon the death of the author and then the book goes into public domain."

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

The only thing I can really think of is that my mother was banned from touching any kind of knife or opening any cans from about 1990 to present day because somehow every year prior she ended up getting stitches in the ER from some kind of slashing damage. She was allowed to cook but not prep.
