Something will have to give I think. They moved from physical in-class forms for these to online. That crashed the response rates. Our uni at least has done good work on making these things less sexist, racist, etc. by changing the questions asked. But the next issue is how to get more responses ...

In an interview this week, Ken Sim said that he had a list of all the times he said no to the Vancouver Police Department, and said a lot of their budget increases were out of the city's control.

Tonight alone I got to push a guy in a wheelchair on & off a bus bc the ramp was a bit too steep. And then, on another bus, I met an 18 month old 92lb pit bull who gets pushed around in a stroller bc her owner worries abt road salt & debris hurting her paws. And some people like to drive places ...

I want to provide more information as to why a small number are being removed--as a headline would likely raise eyebrows. #vanpoli" his tweet contains an excerpt of a report stating the city spent $56,000 over two years repairing vandalism to change tables specifically. a larger image of the quoted report. the text reads "Approximately $520,000 was spent between 2023 and 2025 to repair vandalized assets within our Civic facilities and parks operations. Of this amount, $56,000 is attributable to the replacement of baby change tables in highly vandalized areas of the City. Overall, City-wide vandalism-related repair costs for facilities have increased significantly from approximately $111,000 in 2024 to $260,000 in 2025 year to date. More importantly, the City cannot guarantee compliance with required safety standards, as daily safety inspections are not feasible. For these reasons, these units are recommended for removal While approximately 600 change tables remain in place across City locations, a small number of change tables are planned to be removed from facilities (approximately 5-6%) as they have undergone repeated vandalism and are no longer safe for use. We have heard the concerns raised by the public and remain committed to ensuring Vancouver is a family-friendly city. To support this, we can provide signage to help residents locate the nearest available change table or dispenser."
