What an absolute treasure Diane Keaton was. Her wit never tired, nor did her style.

(Choosing the safety of my congregation and those other congregations who meet in our space *doesn't* mean doing nothing, it just means doing stuff that makes an impact without drawing an excess of attention. There's so much to do and it all matters.)

And Christians, particularly White Christians with cishetero men for clergy have a lever the rest of us don't have access to.

But I'll also note that Black and Brown Christians, and women who are Christian clergy are pushing on that lever as much as they can, and really admirably.

As the trans leader of a congregation that once had to sue the federal government to be considered a religion at all (and which houses Jewish and Muslim groups)...I have to pick our safety over doing the loudest thing. Everyone has a lane, and all the work is needed.

I've gotten some requests lately to do actions I, in another body and/or another tradition (or another time...) would be absolutely into.

Really thankful for Christian leaders who are leveraging their faith in a way only Christians in this country truly can

Religious leaders here are not mincing words. They have repeatedly used the word "evil."

"Detention and deportation are acts that wound the body of Christ, and deny the dignity of God's people."

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

Pretty sure that when you have giant frogs everywhere, God is very disappointed in how you are treating immigrants.

Since Link is banned, his mutual aid Fridays have gone with him. This was one of the most altruistic things I’ve seen anyone on this site do.

In light of this, I’m gonna try to fill the gap.

Drop your mutual aid requests under this thread and I will repost them for as long as I can.

being trans is awesome and trans people are amazing and gender is a dumb box and anyone who makes their own crowbar to smash it from inside is a hero actually.

Thune: "If the Democrats had won the majority, they probably would've tried to nuke the filibuster. And then you'd have four new senators from Puerto Rico and DC, you'd have a packed Supreme Court, you'd have abortion on demand ... "

Anyway, it's silly, and I feel it a lot

With friends it's a little more that a lot of the people I'm closest with just aren't gonna get married, or were married before I was ordained. With congregants it's...more confusing? But mostly that there aren't a ton of weddings and they're mostly between newer folks who aren't both members
ixia.bsky.social
One of the silly but significant sadnesses in my life is how infrequently I get to officiate weddings for friends or even for members of my congregation

Also like, @spacebrujita.bsky.social and I went on our first date after 2+ years of knowing each other because they liked a post of mine asking if anyone wanted to make out

Honestly meeting @lesliemuse.bsky.social would be enough, but there are so many people I've met over the years who I'm really grateful to know

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

Taking the wins where I can get them. Which is particularly helpful given how quick my brain is to get into the "you're not doing anything valuable" ditch lately

You do not, in fact, gotta hand it to the Pope, but it's very relevant both structurally and historically that capitalism formed explicitly around the nucleus of Protestant thought that was ascendant in Europe at the time. Both Lutheranism and Calvinism are religions of opportunity.
