Great points in this thread & article

Like most knotty policy problems the key is to take it back to first principles. What’s the purpose of “the High Street”? What do people want it to be for?

It’s a huge issue for my constituents and listening to them, they want a vibrant congregation space

One of my sisters had measles when she was very young, in the early '70s. I'd probably just started school. There's not many things from that age that stay with you for half a century but my parents fear for her has, a mental image of her in a pram, in the corner of the lounge, covered in a rash.
My first memory of being ill is when I had measles as a kid

The morbidity and mortality of this disease allowed to run unchecked is high. Children may die

This is engineered by grifters & bad actors, exploiting parental concerns

Wish I’d had the vaccine.
Protect your kids by vaccinating them now
🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Health officials are racing to contain a growing measles outbreak in London, which has struck down dozens of young children and affected 7 schools and a nursery.

UKHSA has warned an outbreak across London could see 40,000 - 160,000 cases:

This is the possible future of extinguished hope for kids who aren’t vaccinated against measles

And of course if enough people in an area are immunised against it, then it won’t spread and take hold. You and your child would be saving other children and families from this awfulness too
Immunise your children.

I grew up before the whooping cough vaccine. It's my earliest memory of illness and the feel of the cold of the xray machine that checked if my lungs were damaged.

A little girl over the back from us, aged 6, caught it too & died.
So sad.

I remember a doctor telling me that a key symptom of measles is that the kid is just miserable. Even if you avoid some of the worst outcomes, why would anyone want to inflict that misery? Grifters exploiting parents natural concerns and desire to do the best thing make me furious.

This man’s love for his neighbours and his patriotism is the best of America. It’s what those of us on this side of the water have always loved and admired our cousins for

The battle for colleagues here over the next few years is to make sure our constituents never have to suffer his level of pain

Embarrassing.

The girls and young women I know are so much more impressive than this massive disappointment of a man.

Gorton & Denton - the only way to keep this guy and his repugnant views out of the House of Commons is to #votelabour🌹 in two weeks time.

Our Government's Local Power Plan is the biggest expansion of community-owned energy in our country’s history.

It puts power back where it belongs: in the hands of local people.

Finally, we have a government that trusts communities to shape their own futures.

This.

Unfortunately, one of the most societally damaging aspects of social media is also one of the simplest: the fact that you can directly monetise your activity means that grifters are incentivised to spam whatever will maximise attention, regardless of truth, ethics or anything else.
People often jump to saying online propaganda is either the work of radicalised actors, or else Russia.

In practice, it’s amazing how often the answer is much simpler – someone is chasing either (a) clout, (b) money, or (c) both.
Hate-filled fake videos about London are everywhere. We've obtained a recording of a TikToker confessing to secretly filming Londoners in their homes for clicks.

He says it's not political. He just wants to make money from far-right anger.

The House of Lords is at the heart of our democracy. It urgently needs reform.

Whether it be assisted dying filibustering or the fallout from Mandelson’s treacherous behaviour, this isn’t an academic debate.

The lack of adequate procedure & accountability in the Lords is damaging our democracy.
