Great points in this thread & article

Like most knotty policy problems the key is to take it back to first principles. What’s the purpose of “the High Street”? What do people want it to be for?

It’s a huge issue for my constituents and listening to them, they want a vibrant congregation space

This.

Unfortunately, one of the most societally damaging aspects of social media is also one of the simplest: the fact that you can directly monetise your activity means that grifters are incentivised to spam whatever will maximise attention, regardless of truth, ethics or anything else.
People often jump to saying online propaganda is either the work of radicalised actors, or else Russia.

In practice, it’s amazing how often the answer is much simpler – someone is chasing either (a) clout, (b) money, or (c) both.
Hate-filled fake videos about London are everywhere. We've obtained a recording of a TikToker confessing to secretly filming Londoners in their homes for clicks.

He says it's not political. He just wants to make money from far-right anger.

Men saying *now* they have the women as their priority. No. It was a transaction - they knew #Mandelson friends with Epstein. They decided to risk a dodgy bloke who could swim with other dodgy blokes in the White House. Women weren’t the priority then. We rarely are unless it’s politically useful.

The House of Lords is at the heart of our democracy. It urgently needs reform.

Whether it be assisted dying filibustering or the fallout from Mandelson’s treacherous behaviour, this isn’t an academic debate.

The lack of adequate procedure & accountability in the Lords is damaging our democracy.

🚨 🧵 1/ The Peter Mandelson affair reaffirms that Britain still has major issues around undue influence and peerage processes.

So today we have called for a clearout of other peers who have behaved egregiously, and for wider reforms to the House of Lords.

Instead once in power they have increased council tax & cut key services.

The money that the government is using to lift the Two-Child Cap is technically the gambling levy - Remote Gaming & Remote Betting duties

This partly offsets gambling’s harm to the poorest kids

We need to support pubs much more, but this is perverse and incoherent

‘He is brown and Hindu – how can he be English?’ is what Kisin said & defended at length. How strange he feels he should deny his own words now!

Because he is not English, he does not understand how we, the English, think about who is English. here is what he missed.
