you either listen to the Pope or you’re a Protestant, there’s not really any in between, we’ve literally litigated that several times in the past #Schism2ImmigrantBoogaloo
I have to imagine far-right Catholics are really struggling with the fact that they can now hear this stuff in English directly from the pope.
“How did you receive the foreigner? And did you receive him and welcome him or not?”

Pope Leo XIV challenges us to reflect on the moral cost of policies that target deeply-root immigrants and families.

if they were really concerned AND had any kind of consistent beliefs, they would adopt the V-chip approach like we did with TVs and mandate that parents be allowed to set a content filter on their kids’ devices. then sites, like TV shows, would have to set a content rating

but no, they want control
Backed by the Heritage Foundation and Big Tech, KOSA will force everyone to upload their ID to access the internet. In an age when Palantir has direct ties to ICE, where technofascists are in power and want to eliminate and censor everything, we CANNOT allow KOSA to pass.

It NEEDS mass pushback.
🚨‼️As of yesterday KOSA is at 64 cosponsors with @vanhollen.senate.gov + @kim.senate.gov - who claim to support LGTBQ+ rights but are clearly okay with supporting legislation that’ll censor us off the internet- newly signed on.

they did a study recently that it only takes 250 documents to poison a 16-billion parameter LLM, so all these guys had to do was seed the rest places with their Russian bullshit, because AI isn’t actually intelligent or thinking

its always, ALWAYS, first they came for the trade unionists, and the fact that no one on our side in positions of power can remember that is infuriating
a reminder that erasing queerness from public life is a mandate of Project 2025, framing us all as sex offenders.

so for those who call ppl who offer full throated defense of trans ppl "single issue voters" or "purity test" voters, let this be your reminder that this is where that argument leads us
A crackdown on gay cruising inside the Penn Station bathroom by the federal Amtrak Police has landed one person in ICE custody. Amtrak Police, unlike the NYPD, are not bound by local sanctuary protections. www.thecity.nyc/2025/09/24/a...

A) kids shouldn’t be on social media

2) the way to enforce that ISN’T the current UK and proposed US solution of making websites validate gov’t IDs

the way is to force Apple, Google, and Microsoft to enforce parental age controls in the OS, like we did with TV ratings, and have browsers filter
you read what I wrote and are quite reasonably going “hrm no that can’t be right” but

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.
The life and death of Charlie Kirk and the response to it is the fastest case study of the difference between history and memory that I have ever seen develop.

From the people who brought you "if you touch a single molecule of fentanyl, maybe even with gloves on, *You Will Die*" comes the new thrilling adventure "literally burning a kilo of meth in an enclosed space is probably fine, right?"

the micro-dick squad hoping to beat up a random dude because they are failures who have never pleased a woman in their lives and have to cover their faces because they know what they’re doing is evil but can’t stop themselves because they’re more addicted to feeling big than being true

feels like the only path forward is hoping for…? Warren Buffet? to spend his billions buying Clear Channel and/or Sinclair and…?

breaking them up and hoping local stations go back to normal fact-based news?

or keep them, make them cover facts (which thankfully have a liberal bias), and hope 😬🤷🏻‍♂️
My heuristic is that 95% of Americans have literally no idea what’s happening in DC, and given our information environment, there is effectively no mechanism to get them to know what’s happening.
We couldn’t possibly be in a worse information environment for what’s happening. Which is probably, in part, why it’s happening.

yep. though we also need to radically increase taxation at the top so the Bribe Jobs are not so lucrative
the most antipopularist and simultaneously best policy position to hold: we need to pay our legislators, all of them, like three times their current salaries or they will get the money somewhere else
It's deliberate. State legislatures are often designed to enfranchise only the wealthiest and most powerful in a given state.

Oregon has a similar problem; our state legislator pay is dirt, so you usually get someone cowed by big money or otherwise privileged somehow

on the one hand language follows usage and policing it is futile and on the other hand I believe this p strongly & have a similar schtick about calling one’s work “content”
Said it before but the worse things get it bears repeating. You are not a ‘creative’ or a ‘maker.’ You’re an artist, & if you choose to distinguish, a playwright, painter, whatever. These words have a lineage, they mean something. They’re politically important. Take responsibility.

Trump sending ICE agents to Newsom’s press conference is thuggish totalitarian behavior, but more than that it’s deeply pathetic, insecure, and petty.

agreed, and here’s a shameless plug for this week’s episode where we get into a debate over the fact there will never be zero benefits fraud either, and that’s fine, actually, even tho people can’t grok that

"Private" schools are a fiction and menace, they are all frauds built upon the persistent theft of public funds and resources intended for the benefit of children. It is the duty of all good and moral people to work towards the complete destruction of private schools.
Ohio requires buses for private school kids. Public school students have to find their own ride
School districts are responsible for transporting private and charter school kids, leaving thousands of public school students behind
