If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

Previously: So swings the political pendulum of First Amendment rights, as this foundational protection is treated as a prop to be bear-hugged in one moment and conveniently tossed aside when an opportunistic moment demands.
For Greg Abbott, Free Speech Is Just Another Political Prop
Charlie Kirk defended the First Amendment. Texas betrays it in his defense.

Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

This video from Portland is a metaphor for what is going on in America. ICE trying so hard to get Americans to cross a line and if they don't, dragging them across the line and violently attacking.

Did you know the average American taxpayer pays about $32 a year to provide SNAP benefits?

My latte this morning was $8. For the equivalent of 4 lattes a year, my taxes help a neighbor feed themselves and their children.

Maybe I'm soooooo woke and awful, but I'm happy to give $32 each year.

Just a reminder that tenure-track professors are usually paid 9 months out of 12, and that adjuncts are usually paid on a by-class basis, and none of that includes prep time or, for example, having to have your syllabus posted *45 days before the class*. Many folks are not *employed* then.
Florida's Board of Governors wants institutions to have course syllabi available 45 days before courses start. That raises serious issues about faculty calendars and adjuncts, and Georgia has moved to requiring syllabi at the time of student registration (!!!).

As an administrator, this is messy.
Florida wants to post more college syllabi online. Professors fear what's next.
University leaders in the Sunshine State want schools to post what textbooks, instructional materials and readings are required for most courses.

They're demonizing SNAP and other recipients of federal aid on right wing media.

Of 21 million federal aid beneficiaries, ~70% work full-time and 39% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. Critics need to ask Amazon and Walmart why they won't pay enough for their employees to survive w/o food stamps.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you have friends struggling through the shutdown, consider inviting them over for a family dinner this week. Make too much. Insist they take leftovers home. Some folks can't say they need help out loud but will appreciate the kindness.

V: The Series started 41 years ago today!

This single season is the follow-up to the two widely popular mini-series. But the original "V" creator, Kenneth Johnson, was not involved. (and it shows)

Note: It Can't Happen Here.

If CBS wanted a billion dollars they’d hit Romantasy with new Trek novels.

Romulan Knotting!
A Mouthful of Datas!
Only One Bed Menagerie!
Fated Mates (Tuvix)!
Cuz you're horny on main?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

So many things he does lay claim to extraordinary powers no president has ever used before. meanwhile, keeping 42 million people from starving during a shutdown — which presidents have done, he claims is impossible. In reality he just doesn’t feel any particular obligation to human life.

From @stevanzetti.bsky.social: In February, the Texas Observer confirmed that James “Jim” Joseph Rodden—an ICE assistant chief counsel in Dallas—operates a white supremacist X account. Now, ICE refuses to tell us, or members of Congress, if he's still employed.

Before he was quite as explicit with his islamophobia Maher was well known, for allegedly, abusing Black women. But because abuse against women, especially Black women isn't taken seriously - voila.

IDK anyone who thinks he's liberal.

Philly also had a number of people suddenly summoned on recent weekends. But denying entry to attorneys is an extra alarming bit of nonsense. Would consider running to fed ct to get an injunction over that.
"ICE officials temporarily barred immigration attorneys from the building, accused them of being fake attorneys — even after showing their State Bar Association cards — and from meeting with their clients."

Wasn’t able to watch WS live but apparently the Jonas Bros did some of a song at some point? I cannot express this urgently enough: NO. Baseball is not meant to be associated with entertainment. The beauty of baseball is its uninterrupted agony. The outside world must be barred from the stadiums.

Labour is in the doom loop that Democrats have been in for a while: pandering to people who hate them and will never vote for them. It’s a strategy, sure, but it’s a shitty one that leaves behind the voters who put them in power in the first place.
Serious question. How many Labour voters does the party lose to the Greens and Your Party for each Reform or Conservative voter Starmer's move-right strategy gains them?

I spend all this time trying to figure out what the master plan is, and it always hits me: nothing. Just conspiracy brain worms all the way down. And the most smug self-righteousness as Kennedy and cronies destroy over a century of concerted scientific effort and hard work.
