Okay, here's a few Con survival tips with #MCVegas coming up that will probably help newbies out. This is far from complete, but it is meant to cover the basics.

1) Have a comfortable backpack/messenger bag that you can fit everything in, plus swag that you pick up on the Con Floor (1/10).

Honestly, it needs to go further than this.

We need to confront the fact that democracy and wealth hoarding cannot coexist. Allowing people to amass the resources of a small state/country allows them to act as such, which is inimical to a shared society of “one person, one vote.”

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

This is correct, in part - as the grim, military historian in me feels the need to note - it is psychologically much harder to get soldiers to open fire on people they view as 'respectable.'

And I dread, with grim increasingly certainty, that we are headed to a point where that matters.

There are so many strong candidates. I love how Gail wrote the Mad Hatter, and Ragdoll was a truly fascinating, complex character. But the winner has to be Catman, and not only because he's as fine as five Fridays, but because he really puts the hero into anti-hero while always remaining himself.

I found a 19th century Cat Villain!

A huge chonk of a fluffy cat sitting on a table near an open fire. The cat is cream and grey and appears to be shaped like a barrel in a fur coat. They are scowling fiercely with their moustache and bewhiskered ears apparently flowing back into the cold wind. There's a definite vibe that this villainous cat twirls their moustache as they evict orphans into the aforementioned blizzard and think Scrooge was an easy-going lightweight. They are magnificent.
