I see this a lot about the BBC's coverage today, and I understand it but I think, unfortunately, it is not true. E.g. the very pro-government framing of this piece

I don't really blame the Guardian for reporting this but it's very Current Year that the Know Your Meme page about this does a better job of explaining what the meme actually is.

it might seem that attacking Minnesota, Greenland, Denmark and Norway is a strange choice of foes but what people don't understand is that Donald Trump has very strong feelings about the sack of Lindisfarne in 793.

Kinda interesting thing reading PG Wodehouse novels from the 1910s and 1920s, which is that a strict (and apparently quite amusing?) distinction between British and American English is that fancy Brits start sentences with "I say," whereas Americans use the much more folksy "Say,"

In their "contract to the people" Reform UK said that St George's day and St David's day should be a bank holiday.

They then added that: "English national identity should be officially promoted and celebrated, no ignored and banned".

No mention of Wales at all.

kirk’s death became a pure media incident in a way that would probably scandalize even Baudrillard
Kash Patel's behavior after the Kirk assassination was exactly what it looked like at the time. (From www.nytimes.com/interactive/...)

I know Yglesias has not acquitted himself well at all in recent years, but once upon a time he wrote a book called One Billion Americans that was a proto-abundance YIMBY policy book.

It painted a glorious picture of how a more populous America would be vastly richer & more powerful in many ways...

i adore the book "a canticle for leibowitz". unfortunately, i think trying to adapt it at this moment in time would result in the most chud piece of media ever conceived.

has anyone considered the real downside of Welsh independence in that it would only strengthen our national short man syndrome

Started working in Welsh politics due to their UBI pilot. But like so many things in pilot happy Wales, it hasn’t beared much additional fruit. At least it has positively impacted the lives of care leavers.

I've read some bollocks-laden pitches from production companies in my time, but 'Alan, at 50, is approaching a difficult reckoning in his life: does he want to buy a castle or not?' is top tier. Astonishing.

With tightening immigration policies, the EU is moving towards a Eurokafala system where migrants are constantly brought in to make up for labour shortages, but also constantly abused as second-class citizens.
