Wild that one of the best affirmations of life I love is said by a character in a gacha game that is a gender swapped version of the last Grandmaster of the Knight’s Templar that is possessed by an Outer God. “I’m so glad I had the opportunity to be born…and that the world is an interesting place.”

An AP analysis finds drops in the number of Black freshmen at many elite colleges in the two years since the Supreme Court’s decision ending affirmative action.

I have been trying to save for a solar-powered generator for a while, and one of my problems is that they all seem to be tied to apps. When the company dies/is sold, what's to stop them from bricking my generator? Never mind that if I need a generator due to a disaster, cell signal ain't guaranteed.
One of the reasons I love retro-SF futures is because they speak to this increasing trend of turning shit off and disconnecting devices. When AWS goes down and bricks your bed, fridge, and thermostat, the appeal of analog is keenly felt.

D elites have become obsessed with the idea that they need to prove to the mainstream that libs don’t cancel people anymore. it’s textbook fighting the last war imo but for that very reason it’s painfully unsurprising.
This is a good way to phrase what I’m criticizing.
I don’t think the North Star for decisions made today should be thinking of this particular type of guy, assuming that he’s watching now, and guessing that he might not require full bigotry but at least needs to see that a candidate doesn’t mind it.
i basically agree but i’ll just say - not as a defense but as context - it’s being driven by what they think the preferences are of ppl who will not vote again until 2028 at the earliest. the entire party is obsessed with imagining a type of guy - and it’s a guy - who might like them if they do x

For reasons too complex to explain here, I wrote an Apple II program designed for Early Modern Age Catholics to determine if they're allowed to have sex with their wife, or if it'd be a sin.

Here's the video of it running.

"I'm not trying to dodge the question," says Mike Johnson, dodging the question.
Reposted by "They're making D&D an MMO" is old enough to run for congress
Mccarthy at least rose through the ranks and so had an interest in his own position. Johnson is what happens when you give a leadership posting to someone who actually has 0 caucus support. His only way to stay in the job is with Trumps support.
I thought we couldn’t do much worse than Kevin McCarthy. I was dead wrong.
Reposted by "They're making D&D an MMO" is old enough to run for congress
Johnson, basically, has to effectively get rid of his own power and beg for Trump's favor to remain in his job. His incentives are actually backwards.

The completely untouched .mkv with no deinterlacing or processing whatsoever directly from the Laserdisc is still uploading, but it should be added to the file tree under "DAICONIVunprocessedVersion.mkv" when the page updates. Full RF data upload should follow.

So anyway I restored Daicon IV from scratch. This was a joint project with Chris Person (papapishu), who sourced the incredibly Rare Laserdisc release. The raw files can be found on the internet archive for those interested in processing it yourself. Enjoy! archive.org/details/DAIC...

“Cancel culture” is a derogatory term for a demand for greater (or indeed any) accountability. It’s a semantical hemming in of dissent in a bid to preemptively “cancel” politics or arguments or movements with which you disagree.

Its golden rule is that it’s *always* projection.
Weird how not a single one of the newspapers and magazines that have been breathlessly churning out "cancel culture" thinkpieces for the past four years have managed to use the word "censorship" at all to describe the most rapid and comprehensive campaign of mass-censorship in recent US history.

I submit that Bean Soup Theory also applies to the reply behavior of “This Poster Should Be In The Same Mood I’m In”

i.e. when people cannot let you have one chill public conversation about like knitting or cats without replying “THERE WON’T BE KNITTING AFTER THE DICTATOR SEIZES ALL THE YARN”

Does this app know about Bean Soup Theory?

Someone posted a bean soup recipe and got a bunch of comments like “can I replace the beans with something else” and this is now a metaphor for every time someone reacts to a post with This Post Should Be More About Me logic
Viral bean soup recipe prompted the internet to break down ‘what about me’ effect
‘Can I substitute beans with something else?’ a commenter asked on a bean soup recipe

The STEM pipeline and the “cyber careers” pipeline are the exact same thing: grift and a way to get the masses able to code but not think or do ethics or understand humans. Or care. And to constantly have everyone on a treadmill of $$$ qualifications run by tech grifters.

I say this to the void on here because I keep hearing parents at open days at university telling their children ai is the future and yeah, so was computer science and now look. Do the course you want, not the one the alleged rapist of his sister tells you is good, so that you can make erotica

Lastly, stop telling children and teachers that they need ai skills. They don’t. Perhaps focus more on digital rights, and creating competent users of basic software, or people who can type, or convert a pdf, or understand bcc in email. Ai for work? Why not jira or workday then? See how silly it is?

This. I can PROMISE you that the wealthy will still be hiring private tutors to teach their children face-to-face, with an honest-to-god human being teacher doing the teaching, because that is how education happens.
FYI: AI in education, ai teachers, ai degrees.. all of it is for the poor. The rich won’t be sending their children to schools full of screens and chatbot teachers. And they will be doing philosophy, business, international relations degrees. Not “ai”. It will be a sign of wealth to not use ai.

People on here were laughing the other day at an ad for a private tutor for an Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) family because they thought it was a joke. I assure you, it was not.

To this day, I maintain that (besides a PC, of course), a PS2 is the single best gaming machine you can get.
The PS2 launched 25 years ago in North America!

The PS2 had arguably the greatest exclusives lineup ever.

If you wanted JRPGs, you needed a PS2.
If you wanted 3D Platformers, you needed a PS2.
If you wanted variety in any genre, you needed a PS2.
