Hello to New Followers from the Arlington Cemetery/Website purge story! Drop me a line to say hi!
If you need to restore your faith in Arlington and its people, I wrote this story last year about an Army general and the Tomb of the Unknown.

An Army general's final 'walk' at the Tomb of the Unknowns
William Zana, the only guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to reach the rank of general, took a final shift on his last day in the Army.

People catastrophizing about a precedent where no one can mark anything down anymore for being wrong when the real precedent is trans people not being able to do literally any job without an army of bigots launching a harassment campaign against their employer.
a lot of people debating the merits of that dogshit essay meanwhile the girl’s mom is retweeting demands to ban all trans people from teaching at any level. it’s forest for the trees shit

3MIL every christmas for Mariah is literally the only example of "The Terrible Economics of America's Christmas Obsession" that i support.
Mariah Carey makes between 2 and 3 million dollars every December from the royalties of "All I want for christmas"

And im not even jealous. Thats phenomenal. A days work 31 years ago is still getting you millions every year.

Well done. Fantastic work.

The Enrollment Cliff is a Miff
We first note that hand-wringing about the decline in US college enrollments has mistakenly linked such declines to the price of four-year colleges.

But the decline is entirely driven by two-year community colleges (and by for-profit colleges). The four-year sector is the dog that didn't bark.

its wild how @foiaball.com and @mattbrown.bsky.social are out here like, "GUYS YOU CAN JUST ASK FOR STUFF AND PRINT IT!" and that's it, theat's the whole thing, and its 100 times better and more important than literally everything else in the sports universe
Wanna know how much is going to be bet on conference championships this weekend?

Confidential industry data showed last season each one averaged a $55 million handle.

FOIAball has loads of data on the boon the 12-team playoff has been to sports books.

seething at never even coming close to thinking of just the concept of this
This is fun.
"Dustin carried Nutty Bars, Bazooka, Pez, Smarties, Pringles, an apple, a banana, and trail mix. Will, who’d chosen to fireball a monster in a curiously prophetic game of Dungeons and Dragons, carried a depressing rendition of the second-most commercially successful Clash song."

I truly want to know:

which lawyer scared them?

like, which actual person, cuz all the normal ones on literally everything else they do, they take glee in ignoring.

BUt obviously, SOMEBODY scared the hell out of him here.
Reporter: If there were a second strike that killed wounded people, would that be legal?

Trump: I don’t know that happened and Pete said he did not even know what people were talking about. I wouldn’t have wanted a second strike. The first strike was very lethal. It was fine.

look you don't want to blame a kid for who their parents are but.... goodness.
funny bit of the OU TPUSA bible essay thing that's not being reported on: her mom was a defense lawyer for january 6th defendants. when her client was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attacking police officers she claimed he was a "political prisoner"

In 2021 we reported that live learning outperformed recorded learning. In a new preregistered analysis, my first senior-author paper led by Stan de Visser (pre-print), we find that this benefit does not increase with interactivity. The potential to interact may be enough to boost learning. A thread:

thing thing is, it's bad.

i wish it wasn't, my 16yo daughter is very into it, keeps gasping and saying stuff like "BRO the theory was right!" after plot twist but in the end.

its bad.

ya know the line about if 2 characters are talking about a third, the scene is crap? its 4 episodes of that.
Haven't seen a single person on here talk about Stranger Things. Is this just the Bluesky bubble or is that show Lo-Fi TV To Listen To now that the kids aren't cute any more?

I don't care what war you're in, what ocean or what boats are involved.

A live enemy sailor - particularly one who is terrified, injured, confused, alone and deeply grateful that you have pulled him from certain death in the water - is a VALUABLE MILITARY ASSET and 'one more dead one' is not.

I refuse to comment on this degree of minutia of a city I don't live in but this might be what the promised Obama era perpetual campaign was supposed to look like.
Soon small businesses won’t have to wait for Small Business Saturday to get attention from their Mayor.

Some changes that they can look forward to:

If American companies cannot supply a cheap weapon that consistently works in Ukraine, then the entire idea of mixing high and low capability weapons in the Pacific is dead on arrival. If you can't deal with Russian EW then you definitely aren't going to like Chinese EW.
