One of the biggest problems in the tech industry right now is that the people running it appear to have lost their fucking minds
Bold to respond to one of the most concerning-on-the-technical-details cloud provider outages in years, an outage in which terrible morale and sky-high attrition are credibly implicated, with "let's do more layoffs"

Haven't watched baseball on TV in a while and jiminy h. crickets, they show an ad during the time when one batter walks to the first and the next one comes to the plate!?

If the appeals court won't let the Judge do the non-punitive daily check-ins then that Judge better just go straight to punitive measures. Otherwise why even bother showing up to work at court.
The problem with EPD being seemingly impotent in the face of ICE could simultaneously be half ACAB and half "it would be a shitty idea and only escalate things."

I hope people understand how *embodied* the fear and stress experiences are when ICE is in your neighborhood
Something unusual, to me, is that normally when I have a heightened emotional response, my brain employs reason to calm and guide me. Today I felt my physical body was the calming, guiding force while my brain was struggling to process what it was witnessing and was sounding all the alarm bells.
I get I don't have in my history exhaustive library of encounters. But doesn't feel even like extension of the worst policing I've seen, and I've seen bad. This feels different effort entire, started from scratch with few rules and better tech and pushing boundaries of what can be gotten away with.
I don't know the answer. I was glad to see Mayor Biss on the ground in the minutes after the ICE attack at Oakton and Asbury yesterday. But the current situation is unsustainable.

Wanna hear a scary story?

The first American vampire was Black.

Seriously.

78 years before Dracula appeared in American literature, there was "The Black Vampyre" by Uriah D'Arcy.

It was written in 1819 as an antislavery critique and the effect the Haitian Revolution had on the States

From an Evanston resident filming an arrest at Oakton/Asbury ~an hour ago:

"He was being very violent with her, I said ‘You got to stop that,’ and he said, ‘Step back or I’ll fucking shoot you.‘ I step back, and then I continue to record, at which point he turned around and pointed a gun at me.”

Today in Evanston: helicopters overhead constantly, ICE jumping out across the entire town, people getting snatched outside of schools, a guns-drawn confrontation at an intersection after hitting a car, schools on soft lockdown, and they’re STILL roaming around in full tactical gear.

Not an understatement to say how transformational and solid of a bill this is. All the best parts of the robust reform package the Senate passed in the spring, with none of the negative baggage of the new funding sources since we’re moving existing fuel taxes from highways to transit operations

So what does one do when the WSJ slaps your game app on their website without so much as an email or message?

I certainly might just be setting myself up to do a Charlie-Brown-kicks-the-accountability-football-held-by-mainstream-judicial-establishment, but I'm hopeful.
