So yeah... there's only one primate in lion king, and it's Rafiki.

And we should be following his lead and doing this to trump and his administration.

#lastfourwatched
My brother made me watch 28 Years Later and I apologized that I didn't watch it sooner. RotK in theatrical re-release was nearly perfection ofc. Paul Thomas Anderson's first feature film at TWENTY FOUR YEARS OLD shouldn't have been so good. Dead Man was surreal w/ a perfect score.

Yup. This is also why I get annoyed when people start suggesting "golden age" science fiction titles to people who are new the genre and are asking for suggestions. You want to turn a modern 15-year-old off science fiction forever, recommend stories that were old when her grandparents were her age.
When people ask how to get into GA SF I always say that the right way is via some of those fat "Best Of" short fiction collections

they're trying to be coy about salivating over the prospect of raping women, they'll contest that but if pushed to explain, that's exactly what they would describe. forced pregnancy of any kind, by a man or by the state, is gender-based violence

JD Vance is the most loathsome character in American politics, and it's mostly because he's immediately recognizable to anyone with an interest in politics as The Worst Guy From Your PoliSci Class
Reporter: Do you plan to apologize to the family of Alex Pretti?

Vance: For what?

one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.

Look, I'm no expert, but this feels like a long, rambling way to say "we don't think these people deserve real doctors or actual medical care."

It's hard to overstate how NORMAL it was to sexualize teen girls when I was growing up.

"Jailbait" jokes were everywhere, I was constantly sexually harassed by men in cars when walking to school in 6th grade.

Epstein is of an cohort where it was GENERALLY maybe a little edgy but not extreme.
I need people to understand that it’s not just Epstein, it’s the entire rape culture that existed before and after him at every socioeconomic level. That’s why Epstein, who I’ve never thought was particularly smart or interesting, was able to pull this all off—he recognized how abuse functions

Breaking news: A man attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) while she was speaking during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis, spraying an unknown liquid at her, according to police.

Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.

“When they say, ‘Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. “My nation is under attack."

And I think about the fact that Breonna Taylor was an emergency room technician which means she spent her days and nights helping other people hold onto their lives. And how hard the State fought to protect those who had murdered her.

I think about Elijah McClain a lot. How he was a sweet, lovely young soul who used to play the violin for stray cats. How brutally his young life ended and how the State sent riot police to interrupt the violin vigil in his name. The cruelty was always the point.

It was kind of a tossed-off gag in a blog last week but the ICE/CBP forces in Minnesota really are an expansion team made up of the most readily available players in a depressingly glutted violence worker marketplace. Not even quad-A types. Independent league guys with well-known makeup issues.
Federal officers just came in and cleared the protest with tear gas. One officer asked press why we didn’t call 911 when the protesters were destroying the hotel and told us that we are bad Americans. Full video to come on @statuscoupnews.bsky.social

I think what's getting to me most is that I've been a VA ICU nurse at a protest. I left a piece of me in that ICU. I'm trauma bonded to that environment. I have nurse friends who currently serve our community as street medics. I didn't know Alex personally but I feel so much kinship to him.
I wish I had a therapy appointment sooner rather than later because fuck do I need to talk about how I feel about Alex Pretti's murder. A nurse's final words were "are you okay?" as his fellow federal employees shot him to death. I'm so very, very galled.

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
Let us all have the courage displayed by the residents of Minneapolis.
