NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

By insisting that gravity exists, physicists are excluding those who think it doesn't exist — and reducing the number of ideas by half. I am a professional political commentator.

I think a lot about Gene Demby's NPR "code switch" piece on Maklemore performing "Thrift Shop" dressed as the worst stereotype of an antisemitic meme. It ends with a metaphor about "accidental" black face.

I know I keep posting about this a lot but seeing this behavior mainstreamed by a popular well known athlete has really shaken me up and I am going to do everything I can to educate about it and spread the word about how incredibly dangerous it is to Jews.

it's been pointed out before but we got rid of a lot of the people equipped to deal with social issues at these places during the "stick to sports" blowback and now there's a vast lack at an editorial level (and probably, unwillingness) to dig into anything that isn't purely sports of a given story

If this becomes popularized like 6-7 was, it’ll require lots of public education to address it.

It’s time for sports media to shine a light here and let folks know this is an antisemitic meme, not a joke.
It's rather incredible to me how many sports outlets' primary takeaway from this livestream was that Nacua criticized NFL refs and not that he did something EXTREMELY antisemitic during it. AA is practically the only one to actually highlight this.

Sigh. Just sigh. It wasn't particularly subtle antisemitism either. I'm having trouble giving sports sites the benefit of the doubt here.

From my own niche: institutions of higher education should stop chasing trends, work internally to assert a set of values, and then build curriculum around those values.
just a collection of "inevitable" multi-billion dollar tech that was going to be the future of everything until everyone in the audience who was supposed to just get on board said "lol no"

Okay the only thing I’ll say about the Compact article is field specific: the trope of “traditional” military history vs. “woke” critical theory needs to die.

How could we even write about the Roman military w/o addressing colonization, empire, masculinity, trauma, ethnicity?
This is 100% incorrect as the explanation for why someone obsessed with Roman *military* history is not being hired.

We achieved infinite monkeys on infinite typewriters and so I ask: where is Hamlet?

I'm arguing against interest here as someone who makes his living producing various kinds of video content, but I believe if you want to think clearly about something, the written word is much more valuable than video content is.

Video is MUCH better at manipulating the audience than words.

At this time of year & esp today, I often contemplate how to translate the NT's John 1.5: "The light shines in the darkness/shadows, & the dark does not κατέλαβεν it." It's translated as overcome/comprehend: but it's a wrestling verb: grapple or pin. Darkness just can't wrap its mind around light.
