Dillon Dingler is the AL Gold Glove award winner at catcher, beating out Alejandro Kirk and Carlos Narvaez. He's the Tigers' first Gold Glove winner since Ian Kinsler in 2016, and Detroit's first Gold Glove catcher since Pudge Rodriguez in 2007.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Your life is worse off because too many white people hate Black people.

Chance (a friend of the pod) just let me know that this project translating Ancient Gazan literature only needs $200 more to be fully funded! Some wonderful pod listeners have donated since I put out a call on instagram, and I’d love if we could help get this over the finish line. 🤩
One more push: please help spread the word about my crowdfunding effort to support Arabic-language access to ancient Gazan literature & financial support for a Gazan translator!
🗣️ PLEASE SHARE 🗣️

I'm writing an intro & sourcebook on late ancient Gazan literature for Dar al-Kalima University Press. The press and I plan to produce an Arabic translation to make Gazan literature more accessible to Palestinians. Help me compensate the Gazan translator!

“[Mamdani’s] presence wasn’t performative. It was pastoral. In a city that so often divides its grief by identity, he crossed the invisible line and simply showed up.”

For Game 7, the Dodgers are starting the most famous player in the sport, a multigenerational talent.

The Blue Jays are starting a discarded zombie costume they picked up outside the stadium last night, brought to life with the rage of the undead.

Honestly you have to think Toronto wins 5-2
Do you have think we need AI to perform all literacy-related tasks because you genuinely don't care about actual art or artists, or because you never got the reading intervention services you needed to help you get more out of a book than using Sparks Notes?
Like, if you think we need a modern day Sulla, is the problem that you don't care he's a murderous dictatorial villain in Roman lit, or is the problem that you thought he was a successful politician because you lack the literacy skills to pick up on the language, style, and themes of the lit?
Periodically I contemplate how much of our current evil overlords' choices are based on character, and how much is based on lack of reading/storyline comprehension. Are they choosing to emulate villains because they're amoral in their quest for power/control/$$, or do they just not get the themes?
I think one of the greatest and consequential failures of 21st century education systems globally has been the collective refusal to understand that reading books, watching films and learning to appreciate art are necessary for ALL fields, but especially STEM, and especially tech.
"Torment Nexus" comes from this tweet and is often used now to describe the kind of negative experiences you can have with social networks, like getting dogpiled or harassed or being pushed into conflict

The best news I've heard in #histmed in ages: the Classical Association of the Middle West & South creates Anthony Fauci Award in STEM & Classics to recognize "undergraduate student who demonstrates outstanding work in both Classics & a STEM discipline" (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics).

More Democrats should get more combative with the media, in particular by calling out questions that have an unspoken premise of "GOP voters are realer Americans than you," or in this case, "the president can break the law if voters in a city choose a mayor according to their own preferences."
In the 1st question of his brief interview with Mamdani. Anderson Cooper reports Trump’s strongman threats to punish NYC if the Mayoral candidate is elected, as if he gets to select where funding goes according to his whims, & then asks whether voters will find it “worth the hassle” to vote for him.
Or she can just share whatever she thinks is interesting because it's her own social media account, and the people who choose to interact with the post are the ones who can consider whether to pay or not to pay without unnecessarily commenting which?

A horrific mass murder is unfolding in Sudan, where no one can see it. The RSF are murdering civilians in El Fasher, having finally defeated the Sudanese army forces holding out in the city. The BBC has managed to speak to some who escaped

This claim—that only Christianity was civilized because the other groups did bad things—was the justification for wholesale slaughter, and is being used for that exact purpose by an administration that is murdering people without due process.

This whole thread, but let me add that the coming of Christianity to the new world created more human sacrifice than was ever practiced before.

It’s just that those dead bodies were made on the altar of human enslavement and capital accumulation.
oh, are MAGAs of European descent getting all high and mighty about human sacrifice again?

did you know the ancient Gallic people of France once built racks for the bones of their defeated enemies that look a helluva lot like what the Mexica used to do
