"This technology will destroy all your jobs and render you useless to society. You should adopt it today, and subscribe to our product so we can make more money!"
Not a strong pitch, one could say.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

Will be interesting when this drops.

It's drawing on a variety of sources, from roman accounts to Ogham inscriptions over 800+ years - so one can imagine differences between languages and across time will need to be unpacked - but need to compile everything first

Linguists start compiling first ever complete dictionary of ancient Celtic
More than 1,000 words used as far back as 325BC to be collected for insight into past linguistic landscape

some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.
then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

There are plenty of studies to show that TV dumbs down political & economic coverage and that video games promote a capitalist ethos, but it is considered rude to raise these points nowadays.

Back in the day, we were told that TV would rot our brains and that video games were turning kids into psychos, so forgive me for being a tad sceptical this time round. In fact, a difficulty focusing sounds like a marked improvement in the history of moral panics.

i love that a significant portion of the population of the world believes in demons and the devil and satan. they just think this stuff is real and it genuinely scares them

If we can only have art from people who "aren't in it for the money" that means we can only have art from privileged middle-class dilettantes. Making art being a viable career is responsible for nearly all worthwhile art, and if it's not a viable career any more we will get drastically less of it.

The Express is furious about this because the moment you show those who repeat anti-immigration rhetoric the real human stories their narrative collapses.

The “immigrants” are people. Our friends, colleagues and family.

And it’s this nation of neighbours that is what makes Britain great.

A controversial opinion in the UK: having a standard emails job then sitting in a house you bought for a song and watching it rise exponentially in value due to political choices that have nothing to do with you is not it fact “working very hard to get what you have”

This is the stupidest possible angle to take about the very real problem that people want to role play in lots of ways that D&D isnt suited for but D&D has such crushing market share that people shoehorn their games into a system that actively resists them
A game where you can do anything and they’re mad that people are doing anything.

Welcome comrade, glad to have you on board. Also just to clarify though am I going mental or are you seriously saying that someone who owns a 2m house has housing insecurity in any way the same as someone who has to rent
I think housing insecurity is bad for all income groups

Taxes are pretty much the only thing related to personal/family finance they do this little "what if that made someone's life difficult" dance for.

Benefits cut to the bone? Not interested
Wages eroded by inflation for decades and decades? Nope.
Technology abolished your job? Nope.
This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

people need a much richer conception of performance and authenticity than what we currently have
I've seen people scoffing at this as a "photo op." And I think it might be a photo op. It's a chance for people who need these services to see their new mayor and make eye contact, they can take photos. They can hear his promises and hold him to account too.

I think it's a good kind of "photo op."
Combatting poverty and hunger in this city will take every single one of us. Myself included.

Fr tho my mother was career driven, she has cool hobbies now that she's retired and I'm pitching in w/ rent, she was supportive of my cousin when he came out as gay and my aunt wouldn't accept that, but like she's also icked out snd freaked out if I don't appear conventionally masculine

Baffling!
November 26, 2025 at 9:03 PM
I mean I'm gonna be 30 in a couple years and my mother is still finding ways to shoehorn this shit in when it comes to my hair for example.

Not sure how to get her to overcome her internalised misogyny or reassure her that long hair won't get me fired but eh
The training/socialization of men starts instantly and goes hard. Everything you might like is too gay, too feminine. You are required to hate yourself for being insufficiently masculine, to blame others for that feeling, and to hate everyone who doesn't "respect" your manliness.

*Insert City* is serviced by 4 different bus companies, none of which honor the regional travel tickets of the other? Why would they.

I'll be out £40 a month if I don't swap my electric tariff to a company that didn't exist 3 months ago and won't exist in 5 years? Naturally.

Although these anti trans tropes have long since been debunked, it doesn’t matter to them. They continue reiterating them, because their purpose is to keep the fear of trans women in the public eye.

One of the less insane responses, if you say the EHRC toilet police guidance is slapstick authoritarian lunacy. I again urge you to note that the reactionary world’s meltdown over sexually threatening minorities precisely overlaps with their leaders being exposed as arse grabbers and sex criminals.
