There being a government without kings was supposed to be the point of this country, asshole.

And you just know the people who make these takes have never even heard of the heroro and nama genocide

Someone really needs to ask these fascists how much they think is being spent on paid protesters.

Because if they earnestly say that we are paying hundreds of thousands of protesters where do they think this money is coming from?

Sean Duffy: "The No Kings protest, Maria, really frustrating. This is part of antifa, paid protesters. It begs the question who's funding it."

Hell, even outside of speculation, you would expect someone to ask him why he thought he was going to hell. I would call it a stunning lack of curiosity if it wasn't clearly motivated by partisan feeling.

What's going on in India + Pakistan and West / Central Asia during the first and second sinos?

I think it's very notable that the current sitting president repeatedly says in public that he doesn't think he's going to heaven and the press never ask him the easy follow-up of what it was he thinks is going to send him to hell.
atrupar.com
Trump: "I don't think there's anything that's gonna get me in heaven. I think I'm not maybe heaven bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly on Air Force One. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to make heaven."

You can tell these guys are in a cult because if any one else heard that a significant subsection of their customer base didn't want a feature they would simply offer versions that didn't contain the controversial option (for an upcharge, these aren't good people, just clever people)

I guess my point is that we should reject muscovite framing in the same way that we reject The idea that British colonial possessions and the troops that they provided werent the result of colonialism.

We don't call troops from the raj British troops, we call them British colonial troops

For his terrible as it is to the Republic maybe this shit will finally get the Democratic Congressional delegation to realize that their freedom is on the line, and that this is not just a question of policy

The recent trajectory, in broad strokes:

- Regime starts militarizing the conflict in early summer
- Regime declares all liberal/leftwing political activity as domestic terrorist or terrorism-adjacent in presidential memo
- Regime ramps up the propaganda against “the Left” across all channels
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
The regime gets more deranged every day. A rightwing conspiracy theorist assassinated a Democratic lawmaker - which the attorney general presents as an example of leftwing political violence in order to justify an authoritarian crackdown on the opposition…

We’re in incredibly dangerous territory.

Bondi: "We've been living through a horrific cycle of political violence in this country ... night after night antifa wrecks havoc on the streets of our cities. In Minnesota, a gunman murdered a state lawmaker and her husband."

“Who was president in 2020?” remains one of the most pertinent questions in American politics—absurd, yes, but here we are—and that extends to “who was president January 1 - 19, 2021?”
joycewhitevance.bsky.social
That’s a nice trick, since Biden wasn’t the president on Jan 6.

Post like this and I unfollow and mute. This is erasing centuries of European pogroms and other violence prior to WWII by making America the sin-eater for the entire Western world. I won't have it and I won't let it slide:

It's incredible the extent to which Congress just utterly refuses to defend itself. You'd think for entirely self-interested reasons you would stridently oppose having the power of the purse arbitrarily ripped from you, ya know?

Why would you allow yourself to become the Roman Senate circa 27 BC.

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

My contribution to the WW2 discourse is that pissing on the memory of the war as a fight against fascism is undermining the antibodies of the body politic against Trump. You are literally the RFK Jr. of ideology.

So the Dems need to be clear again that any FMer carrying out direction to implement mil paychecks in the absence of appropriations will be subject to anti-deficiency act criminal penalties, because to be clear even with the reconciliation slush fund BS there is no way to legally so this, period

To be fair: that is in of itself a good reason to use Russia when referring to the Soviet Union. Because the Soviet project was merely a veneer to hide Russian colonialism, and using the terminology that they did only allows them to further obscure that fact.

For as much as conservatives and tech Bros like to talk about bubbles it's pretty clear that they live in a pretty insular bubble of their own.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Q: Rescission are something Dems have said is a reason for a lack of trust. What rescissions are you discussing?

JOHNSON: We have more than $37t in debt. We're doing everything we can to get us back to sound fiscal responsibility. What does that include? A rescission package is part of our process

I think it's very notable that the Republicans seem to going further out of their way to prime the public for the possibility of violence directed at the protesters relative to the first two no king's protests
