I write science fiction, fantasy, and horror novels. You can find out more about my work at www.shannonknight.net.
Mysteries like this one make me want to write historical (fantasy) fiction. I'm absolute overkill on the research, though, so it takes soooooo much time. But what a story!

I tried eye gel drops last night for the first time. So weird! Very distracting to try and fall asleep while your eyes are all gummy.

Christian Nègre is alleged to have drugged over 200 women at a place they never expected it… a job interview.

He dosed them with a diuretic which made them have to urinate; then took them on walks far from toilets

The desire to shame, subjugate & control is a feature of patriarchy:
‘I didn’t even know this type of attack existed’: more than 200 women allege drugging by senior French civil servant
In a case echoing the Pelicot trial, dozens of women allege they were given hot drinks mixed with a diuretic to make them urinate. Three of them speak out here

I've been playing Elmer Fudd, trying to get these rodents out of my car, and it has escalated to peppermint oil. The smell is so powerful--it's got to work. Unfortunately, everyone has lost because I, too, feel driven away by the scent, which I hope will wash off my hands eventually.

THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

So last week I tried to buy two weeks' of liquid food (because liquid food always works but solid maybe not). They didn't have enough. But the special takeout I purchased lasted for FIVE days (which isn't so shocking when you can't eat much), so catastrophe diverted. #longCovid

I've received terrific feedback on the new horror book, and I'm reading through again, looking to strengthen what I can. I teach no classes today, and I'm skipping groceries because even a healthy person is wary of grocery stores on the heaviest grocery shopping day of the year.

It was only a failure if you assume they ever had good intentions. If you assume they intended to destroy the federal government from within, they succeeded.

We’ll be dealing with the results of this monumental breach of the federal government for many years to come.
This point needs to be made and frequently.

I’m giving amazing books away from tons of indie and self published authors I think you’ll love! If YOU’VE got people who love sci-fi and fantasy books, I’ll be doing this often. 😁💚

Share it far and wide my friends! Any reposting is greatly appreciated. 🤗

I’m into book 3 of this series with book 4 on deck! Nick Snape writes in a powerfully engaging voice with likable damaged characters that really appeal to me. I think you’ll love this series - I certainly do. 😁

TO PROVE IT! I’ll buy the ebooks of the first 3 entries for 5 lucky participants! ⬇️❗️
Bk4 is in the wild. I had 32 preorders and hoping for a few more sales over the next few days. Getting to 50 by Nov 30th would be amazing. Join Rebekah and her crew as they face-off against the Butcher AI that has taken an alien queen’s spawn seeking their secret to FLT. #scifibooks #scifi 💙🪐📚

Literally buying one copy of a book at your local indie bookstore can mean the difference in whether they buy future books from that author.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Writers — the ones you know and love, the ones you think of as successful — have sources of income outside that book you read. Most of us are a half-step ahead of the landlord at best, and struggling to maintain health insurance. We figure out other ways to make a buck.

I see we're being told piracy is good, actually, or we get exposure,or it's a compliment that someone wants our work enough to steal it.

1)No.
2)People die of exposure.
3)No. It's entitlement.

Would you walk into someone's house, take a book and leave? Theft is theft.

All right. Let's try this.

Piracy is also a consent issue.

There are books on that archive that have been rewritten since. There's juvenilia that people don't want out in the world.

But it's there, and they can't stop it. It's like if people kept sharing your most embarrassing picture.

Incidentally, theft like this is why there won’t be a second Steelflower trilogy, why the Bannon & Clare series was canceled by the publisher, and why I will never do another collected SquirrelTerror book.
I did a thread a few weeks ago of "authors link your stuff" & one of my author friends who is one emergency away from being homeless had a massive spike in downloads on Anna's Archive from people *who follow me* complaining about how they are poor & should be allowed to steal from other poor people
