I have to admit it seems like it would be fun to do a little stint as a Gavin Newsom social media intern. Just for a bit. And also just for THE bit. [If I’m going to have a little fantasy about it, that can also include the idea realistic caveat that GA isn’t a bigot I couldn’t work for.] Anyway…

So, has the “staffer” who shared that racist meme on truth social been fired, or is he still the President of the United States?

@grundrza.bsky.social also reflects on the fact that exploiting existing inequalities between tenure track and adjunct faculty makes it easier to implement censorship. Without workplace protections, adjuncts can't refuse to teach censored books.

I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.

Great work everyone.

i’m not on nextdoor but my wife has shown me anxious posts of adults worrying about the “youths loitering at the end of the road”

at the end of the road there is: a playground

they’re complaining about kids going to a playground
Kids can't hang out in parks. They can't hang out at the mall. They don't have 3rd spaces because no one wants kids around and then we are surprised when they rely on SM for connection.
If you take that away, what do they have left?

The impacts of locking under 16 yos from their social media networks are now beginning to bite for those young people who relied on them for social connection

1. It was not an accident.
2. It was not a staffer.
3. While the president may have dementia his racism is not due to dementia.
4. He isn’t sorry. He means every racist thought he shares.
5. His base agrees with him.
6. He will do it again.
7. No one in power will hold him accountable.

This is what democrats enable and abet by “reining in“ ICE instead of pulling its funding and obstructing at every single turn. November is too late.
The proposed centers are so large that some could house as many as 8,000 detainees at once, according to a DHS spreadsheet of more than 20 potential locations that was verified by NBC News. The largest federal prison in the U.S., for example, has roughly 4,000 inmates.
ICE plans to build mega warehouses for immigration detention spark growing concern
Sources at two government contractors told NBC News they were worried that new warehouses — and the large numbers of immigrants who would be housed in them — would present safety problems.

New fuckery revealed at insider-trading market Kashi. (It’s fuckery all the way down.) Milwaukee Bucks star player Giannis Antetokpunmpo was openly talking about wanting to be traded. This spurred a big increase in the markets regarding stay with Bucks vs other team…(1/4)

Watching sportsbetters losing their shit about grading decisions by Polymarket and Kalshi. It's absolutely glorious. (I don't use either of them and am quite unlikely to do so in the future. But I am a mostly read-only lurker in some forums where gamblers talk about them.)

We've only been aware of Trump's racism since a 1973 article about his real estate company refusing the rent apartments to black people, the first ever mention of his name in the NYT. That's why his Obama meme comes as a total shock. Who knew?

Really wild to see this termed as a "rival" situation because Novo is a pharma company that actually developed and manufactures the drug in question for highly regulated distribution to the public and Hims & Hers is a uhhhh telehealth company selling unauthorized gray market versions of Novo's drug

I'm sorry when was AOC a "left-wing agitator?" She was an elected member of congress. She didn't harass fellow members like MTG did/does.

Is being left of Pelosi considered being an "agitator" by the NYT's?

Does Kellen know what being a "left-wing agitator" means?

I think often of the women in the Louis CK story—how they all left comedy and never went back, but he’s still going. It’s everywhere and it’s such a loss for them and for us—for things they’ll never make that we’ll never see.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

This is why I can't understand the incrementalism. There's horror shit happening to kids in these places. Horror shit. OK? That has to matter. The longer we wait the longer these kids suffer.
I was just denied entry to the Dilley detention facility while my constituent, seven-year-old Diana, remains inside.

What kind of sick, horrific conditions are children being forced to endure in there?

I will be back tomorrow. Accountability can’t wait.

Among the folks involved in the atheist/skeptics movement from a a couple decades ago, Rebecca Watson was one of the ones I least expected to see in the Epstein files. But she is. In a good way. There are several others involved in a not-so-good way, and a lot of them are unsurprising. (1/2)

Huge news! Our trans girl scout list has sold a total of 146,000 boxes as of today!

But MANY trans girl scouts only have 20, 30, 40 boxes sold.

I just resorted our list to put those on the top.

Go get your girl scout cookies and make a trans kid's day!
