Getting along like Unicode in an ASCII file. In a love/hate (but mostly love) relationship with Alabama, Mobile in particular. I like SQL. And, of course, EVERYTHING I post here is on my own behalf, speaking only for myself, etc. unless explicitly stated

“Progressives don’t care about the issues facing men today.”

We do. It’s why we’re socialists. Ya dinguses.

This video is everywhere because it's a hilarious visual refutation of Portland being on fire. You can't get a mass movement going without convincing the masses

so yes, this does do something actually

This literally does nothing. You are not beating fascism by dressing up in inflatable suits and dancing

Portland is leading the way. This is how you (non violently) beat Fascism. Humor and ridicule are key.

To be sure, the author writes otherwise perfectly readable code, they don’t do arcane obfuscations or anything clever (derogatory), they just seem to have an aversion to spaces, tabs, and line breaks except when absolutely necessary.

It’s always fun to modify code written by someone that writes like whitespace costs extra.

Gonna suck when the temperature goes up, but we’ve got a single window unit on loan from the complex that has been a champ at keeping things from getting too bad. Nice to give the equipment a break.

Our air conditioning has been broken for over a week now, and it’s taken forever for the property management, electricians, and HVAC company to determine that no, it needs replacing. It finally got cool enough overnight that we could open the windows this morning. It’s incredibly humid, but cool.

Seems like Miller's got it backwards - make 'em a menace THEN blow 'em up. If you start by blowing 'em up, you just look like, well, not a brute in Miller's case, but someone who REALLY wants to be seen as strong but has no idea how to actually pull it off.

Stephen Miller is murdering Venezuelans and Colombians in cold blood bc he believes it helps his propaganda campaign to paint Latinos as dangerous.

Stephen Miller views the air strikes as an opportunity to paint immigrants as a dangerous menace, according to one of the White House officials.

OH libraries are the BEST. Nothing beats the serendipity of finding something helpful (or just neat!) in the stacks when looking for something else.

The other celebrity he knew was Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. They were in high school together, but they didn't travel in the same circles.

I agree with Emma's points here. I love Heinlein, but man - some STUFF TO UNPACK THERE FOR REAL. I too started Heinlein's YA stuff early. The first one I remember was Have Space Suit, Will Travel, but it MIGHT have been Podkayne of Mars. I still love Rocket Ship Galileo (anti-Nazi AF!).
timweigel.bsky.social
A friend of mine who was a good bit older than I was knew Heinlein a tiny bit. My friend did amateur rocketry when he was a kid, and during the time Heinlein lived in Colorado Springs he'd stop by the rocketry clubs on occasion. Took him a while to realize that he was THAT Heinlein.

Okay the edible is kicking in and I'm still exhausted (but much better) after last night's grief storm.

So let's talk about why Heinlein is so beloved by many, while so many others walk up to that table with boxes of problematic going 'how in the fuck'

hmm this Art. it speaks to me
screenshot from tumblr. username @matthewsiji.com says "It's 2050 and a teen girl is torrenting a .tar.gz file of all the consciousness of all the tech bros who uploaded themselves into the cloud in a bid for immortality and modding them into The Sims 4"

username crazy-pages reblogs with the added note: "I can't decide if it's better if they're not really uploaded into the cloud, they just all tricked themselves into thinking a GPT model trained on their brain is them, so she's playing with their fake echoes in a macabre imitation of the immortality they deluded themselves into believing they had. Or if they're real and she's just about to torment them forever"

I do love it when a bot gives itself away by liking just a ridiculous number of my posts super-fast. Even I don't like my stuff that much, and I wrote it.

Bots are about the extent of my pains here. It's really nice to be a nobody, just shouting into the void for the fun of it.
timweigel.bsky.social
I am SO glad that I’m a nobody here and thus I get to post in peace.

Definitely not my world. Lol

I can deal with generic rich person nonsense, but I can’t wait to see how the Spiro angle shapes up. Small city politics gets real weird sometimes.

That downtown location is really something. “You, uh, do know this is Mobile, right?” was my first reaction.

This is the perfect description of the Winn-Dixie that was. We live within easy walking distance, and it was JARRING to turn the corner at the end of the deli the first time we tried to do our shopping there. Same with us in re Aldi - just don’t have a lot of out staples, but much better experience.

We’ve only lived here a bit more than 5 years - what stupid shit has the Greer family been up to? I have no doubt there’s plenty, I just really prefer to support local chains. I caught the whole Rouse/J6 thing, but haven’t seen much about Greer’s.

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have discovered a powerful antibody, known as 04_A06, that is able to neutralize 98.5% of MORE THAN 300 different HIV strains AND permanently reduce HIV viral load to undetectable levels, making it one of the broadest-acting antibodies against HIV identified to date.

Man I guess I missed all that when we spent a couple days in Portland on our honeymoon. Sure looked like glass in the windows all over, but I’m no glass-ologist.

Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

One of the best things about having a mug warmer is that I can use the glass mug that I love but didn't use often because it cools too fast.

you could buy a book about the horrors of an actual embodied artificial intelligence (as opposed to the horrors of "artificial intelligence", for a change!) and support local bookshops
