It only took me about six months to write, but here is my (hopefully) pretty amazing one-shot. Your players too can help the dwarf Atlas Vertilibraedius when his experiment... didn't work out quite as well as he liked! Incl. a short and longer version!

1) This factsheet is one of the best resources for explaining what post-exertional malaise (PEM) is.

The vague name ‘malaise’ isn’t very clear.

"Bluesky will perform age verification through Kid Web Services (KWS), an Epic Games-owned tool that developers can use to implement age verification and parental controls on their platforms." Surely this will go very well. Epic Games is known for having no breaches whatsoever.

Starting July 25, Bluesky will require users in the UK to scan their face, upload an ID or verify their identity with a bankcard.

I realize that platforms feel they have no choice but to comply with the government surveillance schemes, but shocking nonetheless.

Please, I beg you, DO NOT USE AN AI INSTEAD OF A LAWYER. Please. I see this every day and it never ends well.

I have three hearings at three different courthouses today. At the second, someone was sobbing outside the courtroom. They'd asked ChatGPT what to say in Court. They believed what it told them.

They lost because it hallucinated, and they didn't know there were no do-overs.

“The study found that 14% of infected infants and toddlers and 15% of infected preschoolers had probable long COVID, similar to rates in teens and school-aged children.”

Apparently toddlers aren’t 🦄. Who knew?

Oral health and head and neck examinations still need to be done on vulnerable patients, and infectious patients.

It’s up to us to do them safely.

@broadwaybabyto.bsky.social wrote over there that a diagnosis of lymphoma under the jaw was missed because a patient wore a mask and therefore could not be examined.

*Important case.*

Imagine if when wastewater levels are low, we all committed to keeping them that way?

We could stamp Covid out once and for all.

If we adopted regular masking (with N95s or better), clean air, paid time off and better access to tests and vaccines, it could be done.
🧵
I can well imagine if you're currently able that people not finding these 'low current levels' as good news, might appear negative. When you've spent 5 years actively being ridiculed for masking & trying to avoid being sick at all costs, the 'low current levels' aren't actually a good thing.
Good news: the very low current levels of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater, even in places where the new variants are prevalent (XFG, NB.1.8.1), suggest that any summer wave will be limited, not like previous ones

Pretty sure “we want to use the output of content creators to power our machine that will spit out janky copies to replace those creators, without compensating them for the content that made our machine possible, violating the social contract with content creators…also it kills the planet” is bad.

Sad that we need to even say it though. Imagine starting a conference with reassuring people none of your research is plagiarized. Something’s (ideally) should go without saying.
Unfortunately they are. And it’s terrifying!

One reason I'm doing this is bc no real mechanisms exist yet to compel ppl to disclose their use of AI. We need such protocols in place. But in the meantime, I have the freedom to disclose my refusal to use AI, as doing so is a way to resist and weaken the (false) narrative of AI inevitability.
Yesterday I used this "AI -Free Statement" in a conference talk for the first time. Still trying to figure out the exact language.

Feel free to borrow, modify, etc.
I’d use a passive form over first person, but that’s a personal preference (expressed due to the concerns about the language). Otherwise it’s a good start and something I hope extends in use. Thank you!

EBV is a leading cause of Multiple Sclerosis. Still, some people say, oh, if it is a virus that 90% of the population has, there is nothing we can do about it.
Wrong, we can do a lot to prevent the virus from damaging the brain. But all under development *while virology research is under attack*

Today marks the third anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

What's happened since?

A record number of women have been prosecuted. Pregnancy loss is now considered extremely suspicious, even when it has nothing to do with abortion.
Criminalizing pregnancy: A record number of women were prosecuted the year after Dobbs
They were targeted for substance use, miscarriages, and stillbirths, largely driven by fetal personhood laws.

It hasn't become law yet but passed a house of commons vote. We now need the Lords to do their jobs and reintroduce all of the safeguards the committee decided not to include. But it is *very* clear what Keir Starmer and Kendall have in mind for us. 🤬
