Still mind-blowing that a top admin official was revealed to have taken $50,000 in cash in a paper bag from people looking for government favors, the reaction of the administration was "Whatever losers, this is how it works now" and bigshot news media said "If you say so, we'll forget about it"
Border czar Tom Homan didn't receive a normal background check for his role while his bribery probe was still ongoing:

Justice officials felt sure Homan would not be able to obtain a security clearance based on the evidence gathered. It remains unclear how Homan was eventually granted clearance.
Border czar Tom Homan didn’t receive normal background check during bribery probe
President-elect Trump initially balked at submitting names of likely nominees to the FBI for background checks, a basic step intended to flag possible financial conflicts or ethical problems.

Oh my god Mike F. died. One of the best. Rest in peace man.
Very sad to say it seems Mike Fossey, aka Mike F. has died. Truly one of the funniest posters of all time and a talented artisan. Had been friends online for many years, but I got to hang out a couple times at shows in Boston and he was funny and sweet in real life too.

i mean congrats for becoming lucid, seriously thats great…now go away, you fell for it and that means you are dumb enough to fall for it and you should be nowhere near the levers of power

there is no moral universe in which someone who ran on QAnon and supported a coup is pro-democracy, and if there is, it’s worse than worthless
The pro-democracy movement needs to include factions which we disagree with vehemently on all other matters.

That’s the point of a pro-democracy movement—we aren’t aligned on the direction of our society, but we all agree we should have a right to contest it freely and fairly.

can't wait to see how this works in concert with the "mailbox rule" for service, since the postmark could be way off from the affidavit of service. anyway, if you file your taxes by mail, get it manually stamped or metered if you can.
USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides
Adam Raine’s life hurtled toward tragedy soon after he began talking with ChatGPT about homework. Analysis of his ChatGPT account shows how the chatbot became a confidant as he planned to end his life.

watching a thing about a new horror of capitalism that i had no idea was happening: apparently around 2018-2020 a conglomerate bought up all the fire truck manufacturers and intentionally underproduce to create scarcity and now the lead time on a fire truck is like years long and they cost $1m+

as a (virtually) lifelong NYer here's the deal: all pizza is good. deep dish rules. detroit pizza is goated. lunch lady cafeteria pizza was a joy. the only dubious pizza culture is california because it tries too hard but even (most) california pizza is fantastic. grow up
again chicagoans need to grow a set and stand up for themselves. deep dish is the superior pizza, you don’t have to do this cowardly whimpering “oh actually we like thin crust that’s cut into squares for no damned reason” thing. this is why the rancid packers have been clowning you for 30 years
