It is a huge problem that whenever Jews are hurt, it is easy to get news about it but whenever Palestinians are hurt, we struggle to find reporting about it

All the hurt is terrible but clearly the media takes one group’s pain more seriously

I cannot make myself listen to Trump spewing hatred about my neighbors, but just for the record, it's the constitutional right of Americans to complain, and I've never heard a Somali immigrant complain even 1/10th as much as your average old entitled white asshole like the president.

Ugh. If you are willingly and purposely taking money out of artists' pockets for the sake of "activism," you're not an activist. You're a fecking asshole. Created works != free unless the creator has released them as such. If they didn't, PAY THEM.
Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

Zohran Mamdani doesn’t make me, an American Jew, feel unsafe.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

The thing about trying to frame LGBTQ discrimination as "religious freedom" is that we have never granted any religion the freedom to harm or control others. That is where freedom stops. You can *believe* all you want that a woman marrying her girlfriend is evil, but belief is for you, not others.

Good literary translation requires understanding (language, culture, genre--on both sides of the translation) and an ability to write well. "AI" can't do that. There are no shortcuts. Treat your work and foreign language readers with the respect they deserve. You won't fool anyone with this.

I'm hard-pressed to think of a non-Jewish Democratic politician who has spoken to Jews with more respect and empathy than Mamdani. The fact that many Jewish establishment orgs are going after him while staying relatively mum on resurgent Nazism is a disaster, both for American Jews and in general.

Please understand that people will not be "going without SNAP/EBT/food stamps" - people will be going without FOOD.

Actually and literally.

Also, those of us pantry workers won't have to take precious time date-checking your donations when we could be packing grocery bags
Money donations to a larger food bank like the Greater Boston Food Bank can go twice as far as food donations because they buy food in bulk.

Consider this as an option when you’re thinking about helping your neighbors out.

I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email
