I've been thinking a lot about that bumper sticker which says "everything looks like a conspiracy theory when you don't understand how anything works" and folks it's pretty obvious to me that the people in power right now have absolutely no desire to understand how anything works.

The citizenship status of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza seems like the most obvious tell that this is illegal apartheid. You just can't really say people aren't citizens of your country but don't get to be citizens of another one without your permission either! You can't do that!

When nations go from middle income to developed the middle class loses access to domestic servants. There's shades of that going on here.
As with a lot of Bad Discourse topics I don't even think "I am mad that my doordash order is very expensive" is a totally illogical or invalid complaint, the thing is that if that's your complaint, maybe the left side of the political spectrum is not the correct side for you.

if you want an explanation for why working class men are shifting right, well, here you are. And it's not just the loss of good-paying jobs, although that's part of it, but the loss of relative status I think that's key
wow this one is fascinating. Men without college degrees have seen significant drops in their wages since 1979. Women at all education levels have seen gains.

Arguably the thing that people treat the most dismissively that would absolutely floor pre-modern people is clothing. I don't think non-historians understand how much human labor went into pre-modern creation of clothes and fibers. A single dress is the culmination of many many hours of work

The federal government is to a great extent a massive redistributor of wealth from younger, more urban working people to older, more rural retired & disabled people. This is arguably its main function at this point, dollar for dollar! Yet its greatest beneficiaries are its greatest foes. Madness
trade war + mass deportations + welfare/medicaid cuts + usps privatization will destroy rural america. absolutely brutal combination of policies. trump is going to war with his own base.
most of the time electeds do not enact the self destructive policy impulses that they promise the electorate so most people just assume that voting has very few potential downsides. “who cares if Donald Trump wins, he won’t do the [things I don’t like] anyway” mindset
