Lawful pantser with a smidge of neutral pantser. Outlines do not work for me #WeeknightWriters
Q1: Since we're talking about plot, we figured it would be fun to see how you plot! Based on this nifty chart, what is your plotting/writing style alignment? #WeeknightWriters

No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

Major congratulations to all the Nommo award nominees for 2025! It was an honor to be able to make the announcement virtually at Seattle worldcon. I've read almost all the nominated stories and they represent some of the best of African speculative fiction. You should definitely check them out!

"digital asbestos" is fantastic framing.
I'm going to be honest here, I think AI is going to do so much damage to the usable internet that even after it's inevitably crashes out, it's going to take years to disentangle from every space it's polluted, like digital asbestos it's gonna be time consuming effort and likely expensive venture.
I think AI is going to eventually tank in the longterm, but...

the only real way to combat this is single-interest communities. Forums, user comms, etc, with a barrier to entry. They become trustable knowledgebases. It's really the only way forward is to return to what worked best the first time

it’s quite funny that my 15yo thinks the music being made now is the best music in the world and my 80yo dad thinks the best music in the world was made when *he* was 15, but the *actual* best music in the world, empirically, was made when *i* was 15. they both look so stupid lol

Israel isn't in control of the United States. This is just who the US is and has always been.

Saying we're controlled is just a way of saying we're victims. We're not. We're an imperial power that likes war because it's profitable and enriches our oligarchs.

That's it.

We have gone well beyond disgrace as a species.
NEW: Fresh morning, fresh horror.

A young girl escapes the flames of a bombed school in Al-Daraj, eastern Gaza last night.

It’s reported she survived but the rest of her family were burned to death by Israeli forces.

A literal holocaust, allowed by the world.

If you prompt AI to produce a product, you are not a writer. If you sell that product and call it your "writing," you are a liar and a fraud, as well as a lazy wannabe devoid of skill, talent, or imagination, and you should fuck off into the sun. I hope that's not too subtle for you.

This anonymous quote really shocked me—all the tasks listed here are like the absolute essence of what writing is. If you hired a person to choose words and draft scenes for you, you would have to pay them as a ghost writer. The fact that you reviewed it afterward does not mean you wrote it!

I don't usually follow Eurovision but I've checked it out this year and so far what I think is:
1. I adore how much language diversity there is this year.
2. I actually love my country's song. I think it's fantastic and have already listened to it on repeat. Asteromata by Klavdia <3

When people are like this about their "dream" covers, I always remember how Captive Prince was first self-pubbed with a completely plain cover and sold so, SO much that it was picked up by a big publisher.
"Oh but I self publish and unless I use AI, I can't afford the cover of my dreams!"

OK? I can't afford the fire-opal earrings and necklace set of my dreams, doesn't mean it's all right for me to steal it.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 96: Nothing you write is ever wasted. It’s all part of your training. That’s why you should never feel bad about the work you cut, or the hours you spend on work that stays unpublished. Every part of the process makes you a stronger writer.

Someday I will figure out how to write about this as a critic, but I think about it every day as a writer: I was trained by minimalists and journalists and modernists toward a voice that pretends there is no storyteller—but what I have always loved most are books clearly helmed by a teller of tales.

I just got an ARC of A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett & I'm so excited I could scream. I finished Tainted Cup yesterday and have been unable to think of anything else. I'm obviously starting it this very second.
