It's kinda funny when you experience how llm have fundamentally changed (ruined? Polluted?) search, will sora, et al fundamentally change (ruin? Pollute?) the video platforms now?
"Users of the AI video creation platform [Sora] will now be able to create clips of 200 characters from Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars franchises."

"Whether that ultimately destabilizes the production and content creation side of the entertainment industry may be the big question."

For about a year, I worked with a retired British academic named Alasdair Spark to solve a mystery: where did the original photo from the end of The Shining come from, and where/when was it captured?
Last week, we finally found the answer.

And I should note I actually do believe there are positive use cases for the amorphous suite of tools we inelegantly lump into “AI,” and that there are ways we can balance them out against an economy that is good for the collective whole - but making that case is very specifically not *my* job

Easy answer:

Because to them, “Retro” is anything more than 10 years old… and that’s basically the EXACT point where tech flipped from being something that solved problems to something that sold subscriptions.

There's a great part where one PC is trying to research online, and fails his library check.

All he gets is SEO clickbait slop, and the DM jokes that he wants to make him roll for sanity afterwards

Was trying to add a (rf) remote to this trash compactor here at the plant. Simple circuit. Hook it up, no good. Troubleshooting. Remote kicks on... Relay kicks on... What the heck? Start taking measurements. Positive ground set up. Only the 5th time I've run across it,- sources instead of sinks.

I read the excerpt and laughed out loud. Feels a little like Irvine Welsh by way of Rian Johnson (complimentary). Unique premise. Y'all might want to give this one a look too. Ordered my copy too!

You gotta admire the tenacity of the cookies pop-up that no matter how many years I spend clicking "reject all" still finds the determination to ask the question.

The more you understand the systems put in place, the more you see it and begin to understand that and there's really no other way to frame it.
It's sadly another example of the system being unbelievably fucked, and the scales by default tipping in favor of Transphobia

I don't spend much time with regret, but I regret not buying a City Ed Buddy jersey.
VJ Edgecombe started attending Buddy Hield’s basketball camps in the Bahamas at age 13. Last night, they matched up as NBA peers for the first time — when Edgecombe made two game-saving plays.

“I love Buddy with all my heart…He always had faith in me.”

VJ Edgecombe might not be a Sixer without Buddy Hield. And the first NBA matchup between Bahamian ‘brothers’ was a thriller
Edgecombe attended Hield's camps in the Bahamas as a teenager, which helped him become the NBA draft's third overall pick and an impressive Sixers rookie.
