Posting GARY PANTER'S SKETCHBOOK TIPS to save a life -- the site that used to host these took em down years ago, and they are as useful a list about this kind of thing as you will ever find.

They are like a favorite dogeared paperback to me.

This was the official objection, from Maxwell Rice, a former Republican candidate for #IL09, who filed objections to several candidates this cycle

The hearing was this morning at 9 a.m.

The Times, Telegraph, Mail, and other newspapers have been more accurate than the BBC in their reporting of the Sandie Peggie case. This raises the question of why the BBC appears to take such an intensely ideological and transphobic stance, far beyond commercial motives.

fucking christ i hate how much i relate to this. in my heart of hearts i'll always know that a significant personal text, one which informed a lot of ways i think about nationalism, patriotism and fascism was titled What If? Vol 1 44, lmao

probably the most embarassing thing i'll ever post tbqh

Bryan Reisberg spends one day a week taking shelter dogs out of their kennels, slipping them in a “adopt me” backpack and carrying them around New York.

His goal is to help people see shelter dogs the way he does: curious, sweet and full of potential. https://wapo.st/4iPToS0

Every interaction with the UK government involves them working out how to make you leave without spending money on your problem and the criminal law will be no exception.
see I get *why* the Labour Party is considering removing jury trials, I just don't really think they've throught through the second order implications
> getting rid of jury trials [Labour]
> deporting anyone found guilty of a crime [Conservative]
> getting rid of ILR [Reform UK]

does uh. no one see the gestalt policy that is being formed here?

For a good dialogue scene with a human connection you’d need at least two people, a space, some lights, and at least one camera, but you’d never get it out of this software so what other message is available?

Is how it seems, I think

it frustrates the shit out of me - there is! we have an incredibly rich understanding of the role progesterone plays in women's biology - we worked out that oral doesn't work like, in the 70s i think? no what they mean is "we haven't done bespoke studies on trans women" and that's true of everything
“There isn’t any medical evidence for prog so you shouldn’t take it” is gatekeeping like even if you don’t support denial of HRT based on arbitrary diagnoses you are still gatekeeping based off the work of a system that is stacked against trans people and against women

old soviet joke about the difference between an optimist and a pessimist

a pessimist complains surely things can’t possibly get worse while the optimist knows things can always get worse
honestly i think you could probably describe the vast majority of American media, political, and corporate elites as decadent

nobody knows how bad things can get
you'd think that the fact that the president is currently trying to get the Feds to arrest Senators would be what the NYT editorial board would focus on but...

it's a mistake to compare the cost of your newsletter or podcast to a cup of coffee. that cup of coffee is the best treat i'm allowed to have every single day. no podcast is comparable to the beverage that justifies staying alive. instead market your newsletter as two thirds of a sweetgreen salad
