Seeing a lot of people ask why AOC or other aspirant Dems aren’t in Minneapolis right now, and frankly I think part of the answer is they might get killed.

Call me crazy, but I don't think the question of whether or not Bovino belongs in his job depends on whether or not he deletes the tweet he made calling protesters "cannon fodder." Making the tweet (along with many other things he's done) should disqualify him from any law enforcement job ever.
Rep. Lieu: “Greg Bovino last night made a post that essentially called protesters, ‘cannon fodder.’ He needs to delete that post, or he needs to resign…If Greg Bovino and the administration doesn't turn down the rhetoric, it's going to cause more people to get killed.”

There is no “better training” for an organization that does this.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

Condé Nast forgot to renew the trademark for Gourmet and so a group of journalists grabbed it and are relaunching the food magazine as a worker-owned co-op. Love it. [gourmetmagazine.net]

There are lots of reasons to compare what is happening now to Nazi Germany and there are also lots of reasons to compare what is happening now to the post-1850 Fugitive Slave Act U.S. and it's *weird* how people respond with interest to the former but total confusion to the latter

I’m seeing lots of people on here misunderstand the purpose of ICE watch.

It’s de-escalation. And it’s grounded in the social science of violence. 🧵

The USA somehow lost the ability to be mildly annoyed and it turns out there being a middle ground between "I like this person" and "This person must be publicly executed in front of their loved ones" was load bearing for human civilization.
this is all it’s really about for them. Not domestic policy, not “economic anxiety”, just an endless desire to punish stand-ins for the Mommy who forced them take a bath, even if it tanks their own quality of life.

A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

The letter from Bill and Hillary Clinton to James Comer explaining their refusal to testify in his Epstein investigation is really remarkable, not like any letter of this genre I've seen. It's signed by them, not a lawyer, and the arguments are not legal ones. Reprinted from their X account:

I'm not sure most people have any idea how often the answer to "why can't I get the municipal service I want" is "because the police union sends their heavies to budget meetings"

I heard WILD stories from a friend who was the arts rep to a midsized town's council. the cops basically had veto power!
Meanwhile the Minnesota FOP literally released a statement saying "We stand arm in arm with ICE"

Local PD don't give a single fuck about regular citizens.

one of the reasons that this will get worse before it gets better is that the probably mildly racist & definitely lightly stupid but overall well intentioned people who joined ICE because they thought they'd be arresting Tuco from Breaking Bad are going to slough off & you'll just have actual nazis

By every metric, congestion pricing been a success. And even most of the people who opposed it in NYC have since come around.

But it may still be a red meat issue to *people who don't actually live here* and that's presumably whom he's trying to appeal to.
New York news: Trump is vaguely threatening to end congestion pricing, again. Unclear why he is bringing this up now.

No. Fuck that shit. When a hurricane is coming, the best time to prepare for said hurricane is before it hits. Because screaming "we're in the middle of a hurricane" does nothing for no one while the hurricane is happening because it's too late.
Immense skill issue to not have found this immediately obvious in 2016

We cannot let "shoot and scoot" become the new standard of engagement. If agents can open fire and leave the scene without handcuffs on their wrists, then the rule of law is officially dead. We are just waiting to see who they target next.
