I don’t think it’s white guilt at all. I think it’s white defensiveness. Guilt implies bad feelings, somewhere along the line they think slavery was bad and they feel bad about their part in it. These past few years, and esp the VPs latest speech? They feel defensive bcz they DONT feel bad.
hence the uselessness of white guilt. these white people felt guilty and all that did was motivate them to warp science and religion to assuage it.
All the cavorting these national "founders" did with our enslaved ancestors SHOWS they knew full damned well that *they were just as human as they were!*

They enslaved their own blood kin! Infuriating.

That mindset is just evil. And it was (and is) the founding mindset of the United States.

In any profession where there is diminishing opportunity, pole climbers and nepo babies will rise to the top.

In publishing, this just results in bad, unreadable books. In journalism, this results in a collapsed liberal democracy.
The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

Consumer-facing “A.i.” is a fascist project of right wing billionaires to replace actual knowledge and human interaction with lies, disinformation, slop, and propaganda.
Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.
AI Is Inventing Academic Papers That Don't Exist -- And They're Being Cited in Real Journals
Academic articles from authors using large language model are creating an ecosystem of fake research that threatens human knowledge itself.

I know people are rightly going to be worried about child health, their own health. But we also can't afford this. Like, John Hopkins did an estimate (next link) and every measles case during outbreaks cost on average $43,000 to treat. That kid who got tetanus cost $1 million dollars to treat /1

I mean women’s loneliness has been a joke for decades- the cat lady with her bags. I’ve heard that threat- if ur not careful ur gonna wind up a cat lady! Since I was a kid.
I think it’s also true that loneliness among women has historically been treated as an individual problem, while loneliness among men is treated as a societal problem. That, in turn, comes from an assumption that women are supposed to earn the company of others while men are entitled to it.
men’s loneliness gets “more airtime”?

baby I have lived the past three decades of my life witnessing corporate media elevate men’s loneliness into a full-blown balls-to-the-wall CRISIS once every 4-5 years

“more airtime” is hilarious

Thank you @agdanrayfield.bsky.social for standing up against Trump's outrageous H-1B visa policy. This administration's tirade against foreign workers and immigrants must end.
BREAKING NEWS: We're filing a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's unlawful new $100k fee for H-1B visas.

H-1B visas allow U.S. employers—like OSU & U of O—to hire skilled foreign workers in specialized roles like physicians, researchers, and nurses.

A few years back, Pinker and Lomborg where examples for me. I *loved* the Sceptical Environmentalist!

But Lomborg went on to cherry picking and often straight-up lying about energy in a way that must be conscious, and Pinker fancies himself knowledgeable about energy and climate change but isn't.
This is particularly stunning because the sheer number of times we demonstrated Bjorn Lomborg was just flat-out lying grew so large that it almost became literally pointless to keep doing it, because he just ignores it and keeps on going

Patriarchy is a systems trap. It breaks the feedback loops needed for health and balance, it cuts off early warnings and silences sensing elements.
