The older I get, the more my politics mature from childish, naïve beliefs like "the world is complicated and leaders have to make hard decisions" to more serious, adult principles like "hurting people is bad and helping people is good."

Woo is a reactionary force. Its association with hippies concealed this for a long time, but it has always been true.
This is strictly a personal observation from living in LA, but RFK scares me so much because otherwise orthodox liberals with a woo food and chemicals streak are being converted into lunatic conservatives.
SCOOP: Academy Award-nominee Liam Neeson narrated a recent anti-vaccine documentary that glorifies RFK Jr.’s rise to power.

In the film, Neeson—a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador—calls the COVID-19 vaccines “dangerous experiments.”

Virtue is good and it should be signaled.
we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

I don’t want to overreact, but I’m *pretty sure* this woman can be the frontrunner for the Democratic Party Presidential nomination starting tomorrow if she wants.

I think its important to be transparent on my concerns about the “form of government” process being proposed for Arlington County w/vote this month

- timing/priorities
- approach
- substance

Arlington has an arcade and it’s a national chain restaurant/bar.

Alexandria has a new arcade and it’s a couple guys fixing up an obscure rare X-Men game and basically building a restaurant around it behind a car shop

It’s so funny how Arlington is so culturally and geographically close to Alexandria but the vibe is just tangibly different and delightfully weird.

I know I go back to this well a lot, but you have to dig to find out about ‘The Beast of Barcroft’ whereas Alexandria has ‘Goosepigs’ on a city plaque

i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff

I happen to believe that the best place for trash is the dump. Not, you know, given historic preservation or something.

I feel like parents teaching their sons "You don't actually need to learn be decent to other people, just make sure you can get a job that makes a lot of money" is exactly why we're having this male loneliness epidemic.

It’s hard to believe but there was a cartoon about an immigrant mouse and it was seen as totally fine and not controversial and not woke because it was an aspirational and nice thing about America that people could come here and find a better life

Mamdani is not a radical. He has run a tight, smart, fairly standard local campaign. He'll probably get 20 or 30 percent of his platform if he's lucky. The one radical thing he's done is told the Times to go to hell. He has campaigned every step of the way like he doesn't need them, and he's right.
