sports coverage is not about box scores anymore. it's about power and politics and corruption and sovereign wealth and real estate and the use of taxpayer money and the most publicized labor disputes in the country and yes, sometimes about ball go in hoop
WaPo's Matt Murray told staff the paper is shuttering sports, moving remaining staff to features, shrinking foreign coverage, restructuring metro, closing books coverage, suspending Post Reports podcast

“Whole company now waiting for a live or die email” one staffer said

I have friends with PhDs who can and do read a book a day who’ve literally had to ask their friends with advanced degrees in poli sci to finally explain the difference between liberalism and leftism.
The group chat drama definitely has me worried that the MN resistance will implode, but I also know a ton of people in the twin cities, and there are a lot of people out in the streets, guarding schools and neighborhoods etc that are normal enough to think liberal and leftist are synonyms.

I'm very confused: your public LinkedIn shows that you are based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and you have identified yourself as such to Inside Climate News.

Who do you refer to as "we" and "us" here? And why would that "we" include you but not Will, who actually lives in Minneapolis?
Los Alamos and University of Michigan Want to Build a National Security ‘Data Center’ in Ypsilanti. Residents and Local Officials See Few Benefits. - Inside Climate News
Local officials allege the University of Michigan is being “deceptive” over its plans for the $1.2 billion “computation center,” which could bring few benefits and many costs to Ypsilanti Township.

Yeah, Reuters is reporting that ICE is now explicitly ordering agents to turn back whenever they see "agitators" like @whstancil.bsky.social, which logically means they can no longer abduct people at the presence of watchers and commuters

I certainly would not have been able to write my story about all the bravery I witnessed in Minneapolis without the access I was given! bsky.app/profile/whst...
I would really appreciate if journalists who have done ridealongs would speak up about how important they are to helping Minneapolis. As I’ve said many times, opsec fears are the greatest threat to the networks we’ve built. But the reason we’re out here is to show the world what’s happening.
Ridiculous. @chrislhayes.bsky.social did a ride-along that was played on @ms.now last night - the piece threatened nothing and was good 'publicity' for the cause. Hopefully they'll come around for you, Will. Thanks for what you're doing for our city & state.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

“Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”
statistically speaking (and based off the articles) it is a near certainty that thousands of people currently patrolling the streets in Minnesota are people who did not immediately believe the warnings of the left 10 years ago. I see very little criticism of *them* on here
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

“Are you okay?”

What words to die on.

What a life to have lived, that his last words were concern. Not for himself, but for a stranger.

May we all live with such honour. May no more have to die with such honour.

The divide right now in America is because those who experience neighborliness as a core feature of their character (they're the ones out defending and dying for each other in the cold) and those who hate and can't understand neighborliness (they're the ones murdering people in the cold).

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

When NIMBYs say that California is full and their cities can’t accommodate more housing, they are saying that queer people trying to get out of red states are on their own.
New research confirms what many of us see: there's a large internal migration of LGBTQ people in the US, especially trans people, to friendlier states & cities.
Since 11/2024, 9% of all trans people have moved to another state, 43% have considered moving.

Here’s a comment for the people who are upset that MN hasn’t charged Jonathan Ross already:

If you just Leeeroy Jenkins this shit you will lose and you will empower fascism and murder.

It is indescribably hard to prosecute cops for murder. It is even hard when the murder is ON VIDEO.

The evidence is increasingly pointing to the probability that an ICE agent killed a woman after misreading her as a threat because he was distracted by his simultaneous effort to record her so he could upload her image to a facial recognition database.
We've analysed this video of the shooting of Renee Nicole Good yesterday in Minneapolis frame-by-frame to highlight the positioning of the gun and phone in the ICE agent's hands.
