Ableism is not welcome in my feed.

No eugenics.

No ableist slurs and ESPECIALLY no defending them with "well they're an awful person so it's okay to use a bigoted slur about them."

No images without alt text or a request for someone to write it.

My feminism is intersectional or it's bullshit.

It's not exactly subtle that they're ready and not telling us so they can get every last cent out before it's somehow MORE obvious.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

And the folks who are actually writing full-time generally only got there after years of day jobs, family support, or both.

The point of sharing this is not to demoralize anyone, but to let emerging writers know they're not failing if they can't make a living off writing alone. Almost no one can.
almost every novelist you read who's not from the airport fiction or bestseller sections is working a full on day job, including multi-award winners and absolute legends, or they have a spouse or trust that supports them. virtually across the board. just normalize in your mind that's how it works.
I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Yes, I'm in the top 1%. No, that doesn't make anything I said "against my own interests."

It's easier to sell things to people when your customers don't have to decide between *checks notes* buying your stuff and feeding their children. Why is this hard to understand?

And again, money flows up.

When talking to a person that just got laid off when no one is hiring, that just got an eviction notice for failure to pay rent and can't afford anywhere else to live in their city, and that can't afford insulin... you can't point to charts of GDP and the S&P, and tell them that the economy is good.

Sure, but... "The economy" was not good in 2024. The stock market and GDP were good. 🤷🏿‍♂️

2024 was the peak year for US homelessness. Higher than during the great depression.

2024 saw 770K layoffs, an increase over 2023, which was again, a massive jump over 2022.
Once again, I remind you that this woman cannot be allowed anywhere near the strategy or leadership of the Democratic Party:

bsky.app/profile/mcop...

Also, stop it with this BS. Biden correctly said the economy in 2024 was good, because it was. Yes, no one believed it. That wasn't his fault.
Slotkin: "He's trying to distract us from the big stories of last week, the Epstein files and economy. He's tweeting 'the economy is the best it's ever been' -- amazing considering the public isn't stupid. It reminded me of Joe Biden. Biden tried to tell us for a year that the economy was great."

Over on another platform we were just talking about the prevalence of cancer in Licking County. Ohioans don't need an oil and gas lobbyist for even more cancer, especially not one cosplaying a Democrat.

THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

DHS claimed an incident on Oct. 3 showed agents were in danger of being "rammed."

In fact, body cams "suggest[] that the agent drove erratically and brake-checked other motorists in an attempt to force accidents that agents could then use as justifications for deploying force."

Here's the thing about the intersection between disability and labor.

Those services ARE needed. Yes, those ones that you think are extraneous.

The workers who provide them deserve good working conditions, safety measures, and pay enough to live comfortably on.
