My in-laws were bemoaning the cost of their cars. They live in urban sprawl where there is little around them. On one income, which is about $40k a year they have their insurance due for their two cars. $2700.

Cars keep people poor and kill cohesive communities

this frustrating trend of "apolitical tech acceleration" continues to be, in practice, little more than a weak excuse for embracing contributors who *go out of their way* to make marginalised groups feel unwelcome in the space. it's antithetical to open-source values. it's embarrassing.

When prices were going up under Biden there was a constant deluge of news stories about it because the media did not like Biden and wanted him to lose. Under Trump there is not a constant deluge of news stories about coffee prices because they like Trump and want him to win
everything is on fire these days, sure, but how is it that 50% of all news stories are not about how I just spent $20 on a bag of store brand coffee at fucking costco

Wow. A group of top scholars at Harvard just sent a letter to its president, Alan Garber, warning against surrendering to Trump.

Signatories include Steven Levitsky, Dani Rodrik, Ryan Enos, Theda Skocpol, and Steven Walt.

Someone forwarded it to me. Read it here:

They’re not just redrawing districts. They’re rigging democracy.

Texas proposed a map that could wipe out 5 Democratic seats— and they’re not stopping there. Gerrymandering is the biggest threat to our democracy. And, if we don’t fight back now, we forfeit fair elections. @katiephang.bsky.social

I wish the federal government would require sidewalks and bike paths in some situations. They certainly should. But, Republicans lie about everything.
US DOT Sec Duffy is repeating a falsehood: That "there were some of the requirements in the last administration was 'are you adding a bike lanes and walking paths.'" There was no such requirement under Biden!

Biden-era DOT did prioritize funding for bike & ped investment, but it did not require it.
Duffy: "Some of the requirements in the last administration was, are you adding bike lanes & walking paths to your construction project? That's what they wanted to see. There's some places across this country where we don't need bike lanes. Why are we adding them to what should be just roadways?"
