The Times has always been terrible when it comes to technology, medical, and science reporting, but this is just brutal. I don't know how they don't realize it costs them subscribers.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

The genAI thing gives a great deal of insight into how non-creatives and profiteers would treat and value creatives if they could. How far that exploitation would go if they could somehow keep the golden eggs coming without us.

It’s not new info, per se, but it is an interesting quantification.

It's really starting to feel like Trump and Musk had a movie date last summer where they watched Idiocracy and took that future as an aspirational ideal.

Mark is beloved by millions of kids, which makes it particularly great that he’s teaching them how to inform their parents that Tesla is a danger to children. This is another one of those “we don’t need a ‘Rogan of the left’, we need normal men” examples.

Yo @durbin.senate.gov, no one is picking up your Senate phone and you don’t even have a voicemail. Vote no on cloture and the spending bill or I will do whatever it takes to make sure the next Senator from Illinois has basic constituent services set up during business hours.

Government efficiency is when every federal agency has to send a daily emergency email to its workers telling them to ignore another daily email from a different department trying to fire them without knowing what their jobs are.

DOGE lists 1,125 canceled contracts, claiming $7.2 billion in savings—but many were already completed, meaning no money was actually saved. In fact, 417 contracts saved $0, and another 51 added up to less than $1 million.

Misinformation spreads fast—sharing to set the record straight.

My favorite fact about the NYC subway is that there are way more daily riders (about 4 million) than the number of people who fly in the US out of all airports every day (~2.5 million). The scale is hard to get a grasp on.
Max capacity passengers per hour:
* Boring Co’s Vegas Loop: 4,500
* NYC subway 6 train: 105,000
