he's talking about wes streeting. no... really.
There may be emerging around Streeting the concept of the 'soft right' - ie a more bridging, broadly liberal & communitarian, pro-market & pro-public services labour right that sees itself as a strand of social democracy in a way that the right of blue Labour does not identify itself as such
Angela Rayner and the soft left do not like the idea of a Wes Streeting coronation

Rayner has told friends she would stand in a leadership contest to stop him

Biden may be the most evil president in US history: no one before him had his cruelty live-streamed, had his constituents watch as children were starved & dismembered, prisoners were raped to death, hospitals/schools/mosques/churches were bombed, elderly were forced to march over & over, & on & on…

Between Scotland being at the World Cup and me now living in Football Central, this is going to be harder to ignore than the last two.

But given this World Cup is essentially Trump ego-fluffing,
it feels akin to the 1936 Olympics,
and it's going to be hard not to judge players and people watching.

Seeing that Girl Guides are seeing an "exodus" of volunteers and supporters and even losing ambassadors after their decision to ban trans girls, and hey maybe your old pal Slurms might know what he's talking about sometimes eh
These are close knit circles and word *will* get around if their choice is a disaster, loads of volunteers leave and donations drop because they've capitulated. Then other organisations might think twice about following suit. Just saying.

This is where the shameless weaponisation of antisemitism in defence of Israel's war on Gaza has led us

Allegations of extreme forms of antisemitism can be discarded by stressing support for genocidal policies

I'm seeing adverts on Youtube from the UK government championing the increased spending in defence. Immensely depressing that they're dressing up our march towards World War 3 as an"opportunity". Links from the ad lead to this cheery, colourful page. Look at that girlboss! She's a killer of babies!

That Wes Streeting column in The Guardian is about as simpering and disingenuous as you would expect. Revolting excuse for a human.

"There's a billionaire threatening to sue the WI through her proxies if they don't throw out their trans members" makes you sound like a lunatic but that is in fact what's happening. Is that good or bad? I think a simple question.

It is essential to remember that Sensible centrists got everything they wanted in the UK.

The left smashed, their Competent Sensible politicians won by a landslide last year and have a huge majority and the policies they dreamed of implemented.

And the result is endless horror.

It it always worth remembering that this government is only transphobic because it wants to be.
It's worth noting that the Government has a massive majority and could fix this in an instant with a one-line piece of legislation. It doesn't want to.

on the very rare occasion you find a Labour / fbpe account that isn’t listed on “a very British bigotry”,
three days later it will be.

Everyone that insists Hillary would have been a better president seems to have conveniently forgotten that our most recent Dem president murdered more than 700K people with his COVID policy, fueled a genocide, and welcomed Trump back to the White House. All neoliberals are psychopathic monsters.

You think you have seen maximum bootlicking stupidity, and then you see this, defending Labour removing trial by jury.
Not really. Many families who lost loved ones at Hillsborough, had family members pass away before justice was finally done. What peace did they have?

I do try not to get too alarmist but I do have an increasing concern about the possibility of a major collapse in institutional legitimacy (government, courts, media) arising from what is a pretty undeniable shift on their part to the far right positions on most social issues

As a lot of the people I'm subtweeting are men, I am sympathetic that some will have the mindset of "it's not my place to talk over women on a feminist issue", but given how often cis feminists who don't agree with the GC consensus get ignored, or even iced out, too, it's misguided

Under the Tories we could at least entertain the foolish hope that things could get better under the next government. Now that Labour have decided to double down on xenophobia (and other damaging policies, see universities) that hope is gone, and if Reform gets in they will be even worse. Fun times.
