Sure, Nike has awful labor practices in both its offices and manufacturing facilities, lobbied to change state law so it wouldn't have to pay more taxes, and funded an anti-transit PAC, but at least its profits enrich a complete dunce

the fact that amtrak cascades hit another ridership record in FY25 despite shutting down for two weeks and spending half the year running smaller trains with higher prices bc of the horizon recall is another sign that the demand for rail in the pnw is genuinely insatiable

I would love to know why, in the 90s, the people who localized Iron Chef for the US dubbed everybody in English except for Chairman Kaga (except for his opening narration)

I'm reading Frankenstein for the first time and feel dumb for how surprised I am at how different it is from the 1931 movie. Glad I'm getting the original story now

There was a massive concerted propaganda campaign from the people who control the platforms with the largest audiences in the country to rewrite history and attribute to Trump everything people missed about the pre-Covid world and economy
The baffling part is how many people were giving him the benefit of the doubt in January and now don't approve. They got new information and changed their mind. But he was already president before! How did you not already know he sucks??

"Hello" gained popularity as a greeting with the advent of the phone. Before the phone, you knew who you were talking to and what time of day it was ("Good morning, sir"); on the phone, your greeting needed to account for more uncertainty

I recently noticed that our garbage service takes video of our pickups, taken from the garbage truck and accessible from their website. I hate our stupid panopticon future and wondering how long our garbage videos are kept for, who has access to them, can I opt out of garbage videos

Almost half the Waymos on California streets are driving around empty. They're either waiting for the next customer or en route for a pickup.

If robotaxis scale, anything close to that level of deadheading would create crushing gridlock.
